any way to turn off cellular download and only use wifi

Is there any way to set the iphone to only access the net, email etc via a wifi network. I thought that i read somewhere that you could, but all i can find is to turn off 3G, this obviously still allows it to download at slower speeds if you are careless and hit a button!

Enter a fake APN/username/password. Done.

Look inside your Settings.

No more EDGE/GPRS.

Turn the phone into Airport mode, then tap wifi. Slide to turn on the wifi connection.

I think he wants his cellular signal too, matthew.

(I thought AirPort mode disables everything, but WiFi enables the wireless radio. Hence AirPort mode being disabled will also disable the cellular radio for mobile calls). Not an ideal solution if you just want to stop GPRS traffic.

your right Huy i do want to be able to receive calls still, just disable the downloads via the cellular network. Im a total novice to the phone and have looked inside settings, all i could find was to disable 3g, but this will still enable accidental downloads. Im not sure i understood your first post about looking in settings and no more edge/gprs, can you be more specific please?

Sorry I don't own an iPhone anymore (sold, will be buying 3G soon).

But from memory...

Go to Settings > Phone > Network I believe, and it should be inside there, where you can set your APN, username, and password.

Here you go mate, straight from Apple:
iPhone: How to view or edit the APN setting

Insert a dummy (non-working) APN, name and password and then verify this by trying to use YouTube or a widget, etc, without 3G or wireless. You should get an error about not having a valid EDGE subscription (or similar error message).
