Vodafone Prepaid - PKT usage?? WTF?

Is anyone else using vodafone prepaid with an iPhone and getting large deductions from credit for data transfer over the cell network - even though obviously there is no actual info being received from the network?

Is there a way to stop the iPhone from trying to send data over the cell network (I thought I already had some setting switched to do this)/??
Or is it vodafone itself 'seeing' data requests and just charging me as if I was using and receiving data?

p.s. yes my next port of call will be a pissed off call to vodafone themselves.

Yes I was hit with the $1 per 5 minute charges for an entire week until I looked at my credit remaining.

You need to disable EDGE (actually it's GPRS) traffic.

Enter in a fake APN, username, password and this will stop it from trying to connect to the GPRS network. Look inside your Settings > Network or something to find out how to change APNs.

Calling Voda will not help because it's something you're doing (unknowingly).

I got slugged about $50 worth of data fees until I stopped it.

I just set the APN, username and password each to "z" and it does the trick.

Would be nice if you could entirely disable EDGE, but I guess that's not required in the market where the iPhone actually legitimately sells.
