how to install dictionaries

HI, I'm about to head to Germany and need a English - German Dictionary that I can use "offline". apparently I can download them from StarDict - The best dictionary program in linux and windows. and I found some basic instructions at http://www.iphoneskinning.com/2007/11/we...onary.html

The problem is I have only basic skills with my iphone and need MORE BASIC instructions.

THe instructions say, "Manually downloaded dictionaries need to be extracted. Then rename the following *.dict.dz to *.dict.gz. Then extract again and upload via sftp the resulting *.dict and *.idx files to /private/var/root/Library/weDict folder on your iPhone.

how do I do this? I have no idea how to get to /private/var/root etc

Thanks in advance

WordLookup is the best offline translation dictionary for many languages including German.
It also shows phrases with the target word, which is really handy.

See the many different dictionaries on that page.
