Do I need a SIM card in the iPhone while unlocking it?

I'm sorry if these questions have been asked before but couldn't seem to find the answers.

Just a couple of quick unlocking questions.

I have a iphone with 1.2 firmware and need to update this to 1.4. I'm also planning to jailbreak & activate the phone with Pwnage. Do I use the sim card provided with the phone when I do both or use the Virgin sim that I intend to use in the phone.

Thanks

Graham

I did mine using the AT&T SIM in my phone. I only stuck in my Telstra one when the whole process was finished. I was paranoid that the process may do "something" to my SIM, which of course it wouldn't; but you can never be too sure in my opinion.

Doesn't matter what SIM you place in - I've done it with either SIM in and never had an issue.

Thanks

I have finally managed to get the phone unlocked, updated and activated.

It took a few attempts to get right as I missed a couple of things, but read a couple of threads on here and got it sorted.

Now just need to look at a few apps to download.

Thanks again.

Good work.

And for the record I did mine with the Vodafone SIM in. Was fine.

I have done it with the AT&T SIM though, for 1.0.2, 1.1.1 I think.

Starting at 1.1.2, 1.1.3, 1.1.4, I didn't bother.
