No sim card installed

Hi Guys
This is my first post here but i have been reading for a while. I just recieved my new iphone today pre-unlocked of a seller on ebay. It works well i just plugged my optus sim into it and it was going along fine until i got the error "No sim card Installed." I did a reset of the iphone and it works again i am able to make calls txts etc however the same error keeps coming up. I have repeated this 4 times now in the past few hours. So I was just wondering if anyone else had this error and what they did about it.

BTW iphone firmware is 1.1.4

Thanks alot
Cameron

You need the phone unlocked for it to recognise non-AT&T SIM. Go and download ziphone and unlock it.

oh i must have forgot to mention that it is unlocked which is why this problem is wierd. and wat makes it more wierd is that this error is only intermittent. because the phone works for a while before this error comes up. then a reset fixes it.

Is the sim card dirty?

Does this problem happen in other phones?

Have you tried someone else's sim card in your iPhone to see if they have the same issue?

Put iPhone in DFU mode
Do a full restore in iTunes to 1.1.4
Run ZiPhone with the "Do It All" option

Let us know how you go.

It could have just been a bad flash,

You could try iplus.

Also with Ziphone you could try to revirginize the phone and start over.

Do other sims work, you could pick up one of those $2 vodafone ones as a test

I have the same problem.

Previously with 1.1.1, my iphone can recognize the vodafone prepaid sim card (the one with one side red and the other side is white). In March 2008, it suddenly appeared no sim card installed.

I upgraded to 1.1.4 and unlocked by using iplus.
It now recognizes all other sim cards except the vofadone prepaid sim card mentioned above.

The old vodafone prepaid sim card (both sides red) can be recognized by my iphone.

Does anyone know if there are some patches to fix this problem?

Thanks.

Sorry to dig up an old thread, but I have just experienced this problem on my iPhone 3G.

A reboot fixed it.

Strange, because I've had this issue sometimes as well, on my old iPhone.

But this is the first time I've seen it on my 3G. I was using my phone just fine and left it on idle/sleep. Then decided to check my SMSes and had the 'No SIM card installed' prompt.

The SIM tray has not been touched. Restarted, and it was detected again.

Strange...
