Sending Email on telstra edge

Hi

I have a weird one, I have and iphone 1.1.4, which I am setting up for email via telstra edge. I have an account (data plan) and I have entered the details of telstra.internet in to the APN.
This is where I get stuck, when I am on edge I can receive email, but not send them. If i connect via wifi I can send and receive them.
What is wrong, something with my setup.?.. Is there any other pop mail servers I can use to send my mail.

I receive ok, but not send

Your thoughts and assistance would be very much appreciated

I'm actually having the same problem, but over WiFi on my iPhone.

I'm a BigPond user, and have entered mail.bigpond.com as the SMTP server, and tried both with authentication, and without...and neither works. Not on my home connection, not on others WiFi connections either.

The settings mimic exactly the settings on my Mac (which work fine), but I just can't send e-mail from the iPhone. Can receive it fine though.

Always used to be able to send, but not since I updated to 1.1.3.

Appreciate it if anyone has any ideas!

Cheers,
- Febs.

I have multiple email accounts on my phone and the only one I have ever been able to send from while on "edge" is .mac. That's fine but I can't use .mac when replying to clients.

I have tried every server configuration for IMAP and POP with a VirginMobile sim but nada send. I would love to see an answer on this thread.

Bigpond won't let connections out on port 25 (SMTP email) - it's to prevent spam originating from their network.

You'll need to use their own SMTP server or find another one (such as gmail) that will accept mail for relaying on a different port.

I'll give it a go, but according to BigPond the address to use is "mail.bigpond.com":
Email account help - Setting up email - Telstra BigPond

But if you're a BigPond customer, connected via BigPond, there's no reason it shouldn't work, especially if you're using SMTP authentication.

The setup I have on my iPhone is no different to the setup on my Mac. Connected to my BigPond (Cable) account, mail.bigpond.com....it just works on my Mac and not on my iPhone.

Cheers,
- Febs.
