Dubai Apple
Hello all
My bro is over in Dubai for work, I am wanting to buy an iPhone and was thinking if it was possible to get iphones in Dubai.
If so i guess i would just get him to buy one, open it up make sure it isnt DOA and then when i get it i would just run Ziphone and use it as is.
Thanks
Also any idea on price?!

but with the kickass architecture out there, I can just imagine how crazy they'll go with an Apple store out there.

An associate of mine just returned from Dubai, and yes, there is a booming grey import scene there for iPhones. Roughly $650 Aus last I heard.

Yep - there are quite a few to be had in the Mid-East -
I am in Bahrain - 50 min flight from Dubai, and you can walk into quite a few places and purchase them over the counter (i have yet to do so.... cant justify the price). Even places here similar to k-mart have them in nice big display cabinets with posters hanging around them. I have been in and played with the store demo unit more than a few times.
The price here is Bahrain Dinar 339 (Au $959.431 xe.com) and they are similar in Dubai from what i have seen so far. I have seen and played with them in Dubai as well. They come software unlocked (the stores are importing them unlocked) and most seem to be around production week 47-59 or so since i last checked. Some stores are even providing their own 1 year warranty on them!
I will be home in Melbourne next January so my dilemma has always been to spend a fortune here and get one now, import new from U.S or wait for the AU release. I suppose one day i will decide!
On a side note - i saw Apple Tv here for BD 120 (Au $339) the other day.
Also a 16 gig touch will cost BD 180 (Au $509.43) and a nano BD 80 (AU $226) 24in non-extreme Imac BD 768 (Au $2172)

Common sense, dignity, respect, charity, and laws that make sense are things you won't find in Dubai. Nowhere else in the world can you buy sleep medications from a Dubai chemist, cross the border, only to return with the same sleep medications and be instantly condemned to jail without trial for being a drug carrier, despite the packet bearing the name and address of a Dubani business authorised to sell such.

Apparently, all you need to do is ask, if you want alcohol. Even in restaurants. Even though the Arabs don't like it, the number of expats in the UAE makes it very easy to get your hands on the stuff.
