GPS for iPhone

Hello all
I am currently trying to work out what to do, was wondering if you good people could help.

I want to get a GPS for my car, and a itouch for myself and work reasons, after a bit of research i have found out that some smartphones can be hooked up to a bluetooth gps reciever and used as a in car GPS.

Is there iphone able to do this or is there a possiblity to do this in the future, as i really dont want to get a samrtphone (that isnt a iphone) as the run micro$oft programs.

cheers

iphone cannot do this - and the sdk does not allow third party hardware to be attached so it will not happen in the future unless apple do it themselves.

edit: didn't think of Wi-Fi, disregard..

I feel that the market is about to explode with new choices :

ummm interesting so looks like it is possible, guess it takes awhile for third party stuff to develop.

I may be wrong but how come you can't use a bluetooth GPS receiver with this phone and someone make one of these apps to run it? Just like peeps do with any PDA?

I connect my iphone to my Blueant bluetooth handsfree........

Because the iPhone doesn't support the serial port profile for Bluetooth which is required for Bluetooth GPS's.

The WiFi GPS's for the iPhone look like an interesting workaround, although it'd be better if Apple just supported more profiles under Bluetooth.

Shane.
