um....if it's a recent one (1.1.3) they should be pre-installed.

If you bought a 1.1.2 model then you should have got it for $25 less than retail so you can buy the apps on itunes.

If you got it second hand....buy the apps from itunes

no...you can get 1.1.3 sans apps as well.

so talk about unlocking and installer.app should be banned then? Either way I'll have to call apple tomorrow to enquire about why I still have to pay for the january patch since I bought a brand new ipod touch.. I thought they'd come with them since the announcement.

no, unlocking is different and perfectly legal. got no problem with unlocking. same with installer.app. If people want to make free apps for iPhone/iTouch then all the power to them.

using these tools to pirate apps that are for purchase on the iTunes store is a different matter altogether.

Unlocking the iPhone/itouch is akin to early attempts to hack intel macs to run windows. Wanting the $25 apps for free is akin to having a mac but wanting the latest ilife for free.

Bugger! oh well.. I've now restored the firmware to 1.1.4, and now I don't get any prompts from itunes to get the january update anymore

yo just downgrade to 1.1.1, jailbreak it up to 1.1.3, and then get the January updates for free. all from this tutorial.

it will be on 1.1.3, but i dont really no the difference between 1.1.3 and 1.1.4?

this way you can jailbreak it aswell, so you can install other apps.

otherwise just wait for sdk?

Thank you for the advice, muchly appreciated, I'll give that a shot, but the sad part is.. the more related to
ZiPhone grief w/ 8gb ipod touch
Which may not wrk the way you've stated there xneverxdiex I'll give it a shot though..

You see though, the problem I'm having also, is now I can't get the January Software Update to come up in iTunes! I was prepared to purchase it too Anyone care to shed light on this as well by any chance?
