iPhone won't sync contacts

Trying to do a little over the phone tech support for my dad. He first synced the iPhone with our iMac at home to put his address book contacts on and that all worked out fine.

Now he wants to sync it with his mac mini at work, except now the contacts on that machine won't sync with the iPhone. He has selected to sync contacts and selected replace info on iPhone with the stuff on the computer.

Is there a way to get the iPhone to sync with the stuff on the mac mini at work. I know you can only sync with one machine and we would want it to be that one.

Thanks.

Nathan.

Tried a reset?
Then sync with the Mac mini at work?

Presuming the Mac mini and the iMac are sync'd they'd have the same contacts anyway?!?! (aka .Mac)

By reset do you mean restore? And yeah they are synced via .mac but he hardly uses the iMac at home and changes contacts at work rather frequently.

iPhone will not sync with anything via bluetooth - the bluetooth is only for the headset, NOTHING else.

If you have a Mac, sync your N70 contacts to Address Book via Bluetooth, then sync from Address Book to iPhone. If you're on PC, there might be an equivalent solution using Outlook but I'm not sure.

There are a couple of pages / articles at Apple for you here...

Updating and restoring iPhone and iPod touch software - updating and restoring - guides you through the iTunes option (aka the Update and Restore button)

I'm not sure if you can do the 5 R's with an iPhone - but Apple had five nice and simple steps for its iPods as a way of troubleshooting...

there is also a hard reset - but if you have an unlocked iPhone - I'd be very careful there! I'm sure a local iPhone user can post assistance... I've got iPods but not an iPhone.

Have you had a look at the Apple.com support pages for the iPhone.
If they don't have the answer - then dive into the forums there too - most answers can be found there.

for those interested i found the solution.

If it ever happens to you, follow these steps, it should cover all bases just in case.

1. Run software update and have the latest itunes installed.
2. open iSync (just search for it in spotlight) and go to preferences. Then reset sync history.
3. Open the latest version of itunes. Click on preferences. Click on syncing, and remove and backups of the ipod/iphone.
4. Do a reset on you ipod/iphone by holding down the sleep/wake button and the home button for 10 seconds until you see the apple logo. Let the iphone start up again and you see the slide to unlock.
5. Connect iphone to computer
6. Go to info and click to sync contacts and whatever other info you want, and select erase data on iphone with data on computer (or something similar)
7. Press apply/sync

This worked for me, but it probably is overkill. Just thought i'd post the solution after a thread a while back about people wanting closure on a lot of tech support threads.

thanks for everyones help.
