iPhone + VirginMobile = Calls dropping out
Hi All
Does anyone else have any problems with calls dropping out on the Virgin (Optus) Network? This has been happening to me every now and then since I have been using my iPhone.
Anyone else experiencing this?

My calls drop out *ALL* the time on my iPhone, though I am with Vodafone. Most of the time I have at least two bars of reception when it drops out. It's getting really annoying.
It might be coincidental, but it never used to happen on 1.1.1, but since 1.1.2 and now 1.1.3 it's happening all the time.

Slightly... I've been blaming it on poor reception. Maybe there's something to it.

My one gripe with my iPhone is that the reception is comparatively poor. I have no service in parts of my house, whereas I always had at least two bars with my SE K800. I haven't noticed it change one way or the other with the different firmware though.

I've found it pretty damn good on Telstra.
Way better than my 6280 or Skypephone on 3

Well my phone just dropped out twice during a conversation with full reception and I was standing still. Not happy as its happening more often now. Usually happens around the 10 minute mark.

I just erased my baseband, and restored to 1.1.3 in case something was stuffed up down there. Will report back if the drop out's improve.

I'm finding its more of a reception issue than a virgin mobile thing. Its slightly annoying.

I had no problems with Telstra on my iPhone but am now experiencing problems with calls dropping out with Optus (even when I have full reception). I don't think it is iPhone related.

Okay I think I might have solved the problem. I noticed my screen flicking on and off as I was talking on the phone as my ear moved back and forth near the proximity sensor. So I am guessing that maybe.... just maybe, I pulled away enough for the screen to activate and then I hit the end call button with my cheek by accident?
I just made a 50min call using the head set and it was fine...
Could have been me all along.

Your K800i is 3G,

I don't think that's the problem in my case, because each time it happens, it comes up with "Call Failed", which doesn't happen if you press the End Call button.

On Optus this happens alot when I am trying to make a call (with ample reception). I will call the number it will start to go through then the Call Failed screen will come up. This does not happen the majority of the time but it is annoying when it does. I think it is not the iPhone but with Optus as this did not happen with Telstra. That's what you get for saving your business $12K a year by going with Optus.

I often do that but instead of hitting the End Call button I hit mute and start talking not realising that the other person can't hear me.

Yeah your right as it was talking on my phone yesterday and it dropped out while I was using the head set. The signal was pretty weak so I guess thats whats causing it.
