iPhone Upgrade Question

Hi,

I have an unlocked 1.0.2 iPhone that I want to upgrade to 1.1.3

I have looked in a lot of places online and have found tonnes of different methods on how to do this, so I'm the wondering the best way to upgrade from unlocked 1.0.2 to 1.1.3.

The general consensus seems to be that you have to "virginise" the 1.0.2 phone before upgrading, which is supposed to put the phone back in factory state. My question is, if the phone is once again in factory state (after virginise), why can't you just perform an upgrade straight to 1.1.3 and unlock/jailbreak/activate from there?

I'm just trying to find the quickest and safest way to upgrade my 1.0.2 iPhone!

Thanks,
Sam

Looks like you can upgrade straight to 1.1.3

"Yes, you can use this method on any iPhone with any version of the firmware!"

I'm quite sure you can go straight from 1.0.2 and download 1.1.3 through iTunes and then use the new apps to Jailbreak/Activate/Unlock your phone. See the guides here on how to do it.

I upgraded my brother-in-law's 1.1.1 by upgrading stright to 1.1.3 in iTunes. I then used ziphone to do the rest. It took longer to download and install 1.1.3 than to Jailbreak/Activate/Unlock with ziphone.

Good luck!

My apologies for asking this, I feel like its a question that been asked a thousand times, but somehow I cant seem to find a clear answer :S

I have an 1.0.2 iPhone which I unlocked using iUnlock so Im pretty sure my baseband has been modified therefore I need to 'Virginise' my phone.
I can virginise it by following step 2 listed in this tutorial: How to - Upgrade 1.0.2 to 1.1.2 is this sounding alright?
Once 'Virginised' I just connect to iTunes and update my firmware to 1.1.3?
and from there Jailbreak, Active and Unlock with ZiPhone?

Does this sound to correct to those of you in the know?
Cheers!

A mate of mine went from 1.0.2 to 1.1.3 today - he virginised and everything went perfectly. Was it necessary to virginise? I don't know, but it's not much additional work for the extra peace of mind.

Sounds good.

I wonder why people left it on 1.0.2 for so long.

I guess they didn't feel they needed 1.1.1/1.1.2/1.1.3 until now...
