Hi everyone, after hours of googling with no answers, I've resorted to starting this thread.

***THE SHORT VERSION***

I've been working for days on this and have my phone at 1.1.3 with everything working except one big problem:

I have no EDGE menu available under Settings>General>Network, which means I cannot enter the Telstra APN, and therefore have no EDGE access. This is not the issue where EDGE settings are not retained after a reboot... the EDGE menu is simply non-existent.

I've used the ZiPhone 2.0 jailbreak / activation / unlock method on my phone which is an early model with bootloader 3.9, after virginizing and downgrading to 1.02 > 1.1.1 > 1.1.2, update to 1.1.3, ran ZiPhone 2.0 via terminal on a early 2008 MacPro, OS X 10.5.

There are threads online about editing the appropriate carrier bundles located at System/Library/Carrier Bundles/, but this doesn't seem to work for me.

Has anyone else come across this issue on their way to 1.1.3??

We have another iPhone in the house which I updated using the Dev Team Official Update and Jailbreak to 1.1.3 (Installer version), which is working great ANDhas the EDGE menu. Why didn't I take this path?

Well, I originally upgraded my phone this way BUT I needed to install the RiP Dev Russian Project (localizes the iPhone to Russian language). It didn't play well with the Dev Team update and the guy at RiP Dev suggested I use the ZiPhone method, which is where the trouble started.

Ran Ziphone over existing 1.1.3 install - didn't work. Virginized and update to 1.1.3, jailbroke and activated using ZiPhone 1.0 (via terminal), lost my IPSF unlock, so used AnySIM 1.3, and it all worked. Installed the RiP Dev Russian localization - all working, EXCEPT the iPod and Photos didn't work at all. I could transfer and synchronize music and photos to the phone, but they weren't visible/accessible in the phone via springboard. Didn't even confirm the status of EDGE as I wasn't worried about that yet.

Virginized and downgraded, 1.02>1.01>1.02... on the way tried re-installing IPSF as the unlock had been completely lost (I think the virginization screwed it - no luck at all, so ditched it)... This time jailbreak / activate / unlocked with ZiPhone 2.0 via terminal. It worked really well, only took a few minutes. iPod and Photos worked, synchronized my iPhone back up, installed Rip Dev and I was happy, until I realized that I couldn't access EDGE.

(I actually did all this several times, checking along the way to see if the broken iPod / Photo and EDGE problems popped up before 1.1.3, but they didn't)

All I can assume is that this issue is specific to the ZiPhone method. I'm guessing I could virginize and use the Dev Team method and forget about the RiP Dev apps, but for now I'm wondering if there's a solution.

(Sorry to be so long-winded, but I thought my experiences might be interesting or helpful to others)

You can edit the carrier plist, "Allow EDGE Editing" is a boolean, set it to "Yes"

This is one of the first things I tried - opened 'carrier.plist' and 'AllowEDGEEDiting' was already set to <true/>, so I don't know if this is the problem - there is still no EDGE menu.

It depends which carrier plist you are using. The Russian dev install is probably using a different plist.

The EDGE menu is missing even before I install any third party apps....

i noticed other people are having the same problem, but no one seems to have come up with a good solid solution. Might have to use the Dev Team method, although ZiPhone works really well and unlocks too..

Have you tried reinstalling the firmware via DFU mode ?

edit the carriers plist in /System/Library/Carrier Bundles/Unknown.bundle/carrier.plist

add your edge settings in the relevant sections of that file
