problem unlocking 1.0.0 iphone, should I upgrade first?

Hello everyone,

I have an iPhone v1.0.0 (firmware 03.12.06_G) that is jailbroken. I am having difficultly unlocking it with anySIM v1.1 (using iNdependence 1.3.1 to do everything). I keep getting a "incorrect SIM" message and restarting anySIM says the SIM has already been patched.

It looks like I shouldn't have tried anySIM to unlock, and focus on upgrading to 1.1.1 then using anySIM. Can any experts shed any light?

I search the forums and no luck, I've read laughingbirds Babysteps Upgrade from 1.0.2 to 1.1.2 post and this looks great.

What are my options? Any first-hand knowledge with 1.0.0 phone? Thanks in advance. If there are any further details you need, let me know.

Cheers

Maybe you need to get to 1.0.2 first.

Well that didn't go as expected. After upgrading to 1.0.2 (via iTunes using option key to select correct firmware) I received this message:

The iPhone "name" could not be updated. An unknown error occurred (1).

This then sent the phone into recovery mode (caution triangle symbol, with connect to iTunes message). Eventually it seemed to unhinge and go back to normal. iTunes wouldn't recognise it and iNdependence just gave me a error message "cannot get firmware version" and would keep looking for it.

Once I started breathing again, I held down the home and off button for 10sec and my old mac recognised it and allowed me to restore (again using the option key to select firmware).

WHEW! now I have an activated and jailbroken iPhone with modem firmware 03.14.08_G

onto the babysteps. Thanks

SUCCESS at last. While the babysteps wouldn't work. I could get *#307# to ring but no where to answer and hold (just the keypad). I used iNdependence & iTunes to upgrade, then downgrade then upgrade to 1.1.1 (as stated in their help file). I couldn't copy anySIM to the iphone from iNdependence as it kept saying I entered the wrong root password (no possible).

jailbreakme.com (from the babysteps instructions) worked to install the installer then anySIM and success. I'm too scared to upgrade to 1.1.2 as I finally have it working (enough for me).

Thanks for all the info on the site, great work. Now I can sell my second shrinkwrapped iPhone, that was going to be a replacement as I buggered up the SIM tray when I first got the thing in Aug. So this has been five months getting this phone to work.

If anyone needs a iPhone repairer in Melbourne, check out MKC in Elizabeth Street, they fixed my SIM card tray.

What was wrong with your tray?

It wasn't the SIM tray exactly but the contacts for the SIM card inside the iphone. I was pulling out my SIM card before unlocking (I forgot I was expecting an important call) heard a scraping sound and found it very difficult to remove. From then on I couldn't get any SIM to be recognised (No SIM as oppossed to incorrect/unlocked SIM).

All is working well a few days in. Thanks for showing the interest. Cheers
