this is just a query, at home i have a wifi network which ties in my imac, macbook and thus far my iphone which all utilise this. now when i go out into the open, eg into a CBD etc and try to connect to free wifi access points it just doesnt seem to connect. now im not talking bout the free telstra hot spots that u need to pay for, i mean free and unlocked wifi access points. i can connect to them but when i go into safari it says edge is not conected? even tho i have selected the given wifi network? is there anyway to fix this as i dont wanna use edge but utilise the free wifi networks on offer

are you running on DHCP or have you manually entered your network settings in your iphone

running on DHCP and have HTTP Proxy set to Auto, the ip address, subnet mask , router and DNS all come up automatically.
this is for my network at home btw.

so im not sure how id get it running in a free wifi hotspot? ive tried numerous times, eg going to DHCP and hitting auto down at the proxy.
