Hey all,
I was wondering if you might be able to give me some advice.
I was attempting to upgrade my 1.1.1 ootb iphone running 1.1.2 to 1.1.3 using the ZiPhone gui app.
Whilst still in 1.1.2 I removed my 3rd party apps and restored all of my settings.
I upgraded to 1.1.3 via itunes. --This is when something weird happened. The screen went straight to the "slide to unlock" screen. I slid and it showed the springboard. I touched and held an icon and they all wiggled. Google maps locator didn't work. Then I tried to make a call and it didn't work either.
I switched the phone off and back on and then I got the slide for emergency screen.
I have tried numerous times to jailbreak and unlock with the ziphone gui app and had the error 5 come up.
I then tried to go back to 1.1.1 but itunes wouldn't let me.
I went back to itunes 7.4 to try and get back to 1.1.1 and it wouldn't let me either.
My computer is on 10.4.11.
Any suggestions?
Would running ziphone on a leopard machine do the trick?
Can anyone let me plug my phone into their leopard machine for a few minutes today (Thursday 21/2/08).
Cheers,
s

Ok. Figured it out -- I think.
Tried ZiPhone 2.4 on another machine---10.4.11---, and put the iphone in DFU mode. Make sure iTunes is not running.

ZiPhone 2.4 is the only version that will run under Tiger all the other versions would only run under Leopard.

****And typically it's now working****

Unlocked 1.1.3 iPhone and my new problem is that I can't install any new apps. Installer App keeps telling me that I've not got enough free space. It won't let me delete apps through installer either saying there isn't enough space too!
I tried using Independence to remove apps - that seems to have worked - however my phone is still telling me I don't have enough space (512k I think!)
Any help would be splendid!

Upgrading from 1.1.1 to 1.1.4, can somebody help?
Hi there,
I have an unlocked Iphone currently running firmware 1.1.1. I have been out of the firmware game for a few months and have lost track of the best way to upgrade to a new version.
Could somebody out there just give me a few basic steps to help me along in upgrading to 1.1.4? All I really need is to be pointed in the right direction. Should I go to iTunes and re-virginize my iphone and restore it to its factory settings...then upgrade to 1.1.4...and then unlock it again? Is this really necessary or is there some patch or upgrade that I can apply to upgrade to 1.1.4 from 1.1.1? Will I loose my 3rd party applications during this process? I have heard good things about Independence and Ziphone but I have no sweet clue how or when I should use these.
Any input or comments would be *greatly* helpful and appreciated.
Cheers to the Iphone community!
Regards,
Athabasca

Go to iTunes. Restore to 1.1.4.
Run iLiberty+
You will lose your 3rd party apps as it is a restore.
Do not use ziPhone.

Also...Is there any way you can make a complete image backup of the Iphone prior to virginizing it?
Thnaks!! I appreciate all the excellent support!

Why don't you just make a list of all your apps, then install them again after.
Or stay with 1.1.1 if you can't bare to lose them.
1.1.4 is worth it. I wipe my phone clean all the time and start fresh. Sync to iTunes first of course.

Does iTues back up the e-mail settings, photos, ect. ??
Thanks!

I am not sure about that.
Sync and back up to be sure. Or copy the files over manually.
Or write down/check your settings afterwards.
I suspect it will not save your settings. iPhoto should have your photos if you sync it first. I'm not sure about backups.
Try and see, but make sure you are backing up manually or write things down before you proceed/lose everything.

Hi Guys,
If I were to buy an 8GB V1 (Not 3G) iPhone from the US locked to AT&T or whatever it is (as these seem to go cheapest), will iLiberty unlock this without any troubles? Is it still the most reliable unlocker/jailbreaker?
Is jail breaking and unlocking the same thing? I have literally been searching on the forums for the last 1.5 hours and found this the most appropriate place to ask.
Thanks!

Unlock without any trouble? Yes.
Most reliable? Yes.
Jailbreaking same as unlocking? No.
Unlocking breaks the 'lock' between the phone and AT&T. You can use it on any carrier in the world. Jailbreaking breaks into the phone and allows you to write to it (needed to unlock).
