$165 for a replacement would really only make sense if you have a 16gb. Since the 8gb retails at $199 IF something happens to it. If not, you just saved yourself the $180~ you would have paid for the insurance.

No, retail with *another* 24 month contract is ~$199 (depending who you go through), which means you will be paying in excess of $1500 in two years for a replacement iPhone. FFS, can you please read the multitude of posts in regards to this subject? Its like beating a dead horse....

Do you honestly think you can't get a replacement for less than $200. Sure it's new now, and in demand. The first gen iPhone is less than a year old, and sells for what.. 1/4 of what it retailed for now?
We all know that Apple releases better products each and every year, quite consistently. In August 09, I would be surprised if the 8gb is even worth $100.

I'd suggest you stop now. That $199 was a subsidized price announced at the WWDC. Outright prices, as mentioned they retail for between $720 and $950. The first gen iPhones are still demanding great prices on eBay and forums.

Have you checked eBay before posting? Do a completed search, between $100-200, and you will see first gen iPhones for sale. These cost WAY more when they were first released than the current model now.
This is my justification for not buying insurance, never have, never will. If you want to spend the extra $180 for the piece of mind, good on you. It's a phone worth $199 (8GB). And not any more expensive than most other smart phones on the market.
Do I have insurance for my cars? My house? Yes. Phone? What's the point?
I think we're putting this thing a bit too high on the pedestal no?

Show us a first gen going for $100-$200 then, at final sale. As I have searched ebay in Australia and the US, and there are no iPhones finishing below $200US (most are between $350-$500). Anyone who uses ebay regularly knows the prices jump dramtically in the last ten minutes.
You're not trolling, are you?

I don't mean to be an ass. But come on... you must think prices are a bit overinflated now because it's new right??
I'm not going through the 100's of pages of completed iPhone auctions, but (green) sold ones just in the last 2 days... slightly used ones would go for about $150-160...
Apple iPHONE 8GB, unlockable - eBay (item 180268739759 end time Jul-23-08 17:23:01 PDT)
8MB Apple iphone*****Excellent Condition - eBay (item 270257794114 end time Jul-22-08 19:06:12 PDT)
new? $200.
IPhone 4 GB - eBay (item 280249076656 end time Jul-22-08 18:38:47 PDT)
Believe what you want, but don't hate me for my logic. There's no reason to assume otherwise, the numbers are there.

Hey beanolo
You got one for sale?
I'll give you $300 for either gen iphone in reasonable condition, that's 50% over their value, an offer that you can't refuse!

The two 8GB auctions were ended earlier if you noticed. This isn't an indication of what they were really sold at.
The final like was for a 4GB model, and the seller had 0% feedback.
I mean...come on.
On both US and AUS eBay, most 1st gen iPhones are still demanding >$500.

LOL, this has absolutely nothing to do with the "broken iphone screen", nor the topic of insurance. There's over 500+ pages going back of auctions, I don't need to bring up every single one for review to prove a point.
I went back only 2 days of auctions to prove a point, absolutely no reason to argue or waste any more of my time.
If it makes you feel better to say you have a $500+ or $700-800 phone. So be it. One day you'll understand it's all hype, and you'll be onto the next big gadget.
