Hell yeah - I can see how two identically thin black rectangles could be so immensely different, one can be labeled ugly and the other beautiful.

At least he tried being creative.
It's hard being creative and designing stuff, and pretty easy to just sit back and shoot down passing ducks.

Not for me, I don't have a dog. I'd have to go collect all those carcasses myself. Fuck that.

Impressive effort using Pages!!! I like it. I want to see something more sleek and sharp than the current offering. I hate how if the current iPhone is sitting on a table and you press near the edge of the screen it moves. Your mockup would fix that!

That said that other mockup is brilliant!

I really really doubt Apple will put an SD card slot in the iPhone anytime soon. I do hope however, they manage to make it smaller. I know they may not be able to reduce the screen size without causing problems, but if they shave a tad off the sides, and a good chunk from the top, and maybe even a tad thinner, it would be a beautiful and practical size.

To be honest I can't really see much they can improve in the iPhone, apart from adding a forward facing camera, though personally I know I would never use this. The new S model runs very well, so all I really hope for is smaller size and better battery life. And perhaps a nicer looking and less scratch prone back cover to it. That mockup in the link looks almost perfect!

maybe they might add a scratch proof coat to the screen. or has that already been implemented?

That's a great effort using Pages. I can't even draw an iPhone on the board that my students recognise.

Personally, I really don't like the current Home button. Everything else on the device requires no pressure (the screen) or else very minimal pressure (the volume, silent and whatever the other switch is called.

The Home button however, which you need to press quite a lot on a device which doesn't multitask, by contrast requires a huge amount of force to activate.

I understand that it needs to be difficult to activate accidentally, and it should be hardware rather than software - but it could be better than what we have now.

the top speaker and home button are images off the iphone simulator that i took screen shots of. i certainly couldn't do them in pages.

Unfortunately there's no way they would allow a SD slot. I think the iSight camera could actually happen!

It is traditional for Apple design to keep the design as clean and minimalist as possible, without having any un-necessary ports and slots etc. The SD card is for storage, they would much rather have internal storage instead. Could you imagine an SD card slot in the current iPhone? It would look really messy. It would also be hard to include without adding weight and especially bulk. I think they would rather make the iPhone more compact than add an SD card slot.

I guess it also adds a bit of confusion and complexity to the use of the phone when you have to explain to non tech savvy consumers that they have to purchase a special type of external storage. But probably the biggest factor is I don't see how they could implement removable storage with their current software and iTunes sync. What gets put on the removable storage, and what happens when it is taken out? With syncing it just wouldn't work.

Bit hard to explain but it would seem VERY un-Apple like to include one.

maybe not SD, but microSD would be more suitable for mobile.

I agree. It just creates complexity to the device.

Its all about making itunes the "hub" of home entertainment.

If they allowed the SD card on the iphone... they would then have to allow external HDD usage on the AppleTV.

PLUS... by NOT allowing user upgradable storage... they ensure that you will come back and buy a new device when your needs dictate more storage.
