Thanks for the quick reply,
One of the main reasons for hanging out for the aussie iphone is for the warranty and support.
I am sick of dealing with and being treated like a criminal when trying to repair or replace mobile phones under warranty.
Ever since moving to Mac a year ago, Apple has restored my faith in customer service and product support for numerous reasons that I wont go into in this thread.

Well, if you walk into an Apple store and ask them to fix your iPhone, and they can see Cydia and other unsanctioned apps running... they're not going to like you very much.
|
officially I agree, but with my experience with apple, I wouldn't be surprised if they (apple) saw that I had unsanctioned apple apps etc, they would 'unofficially' give the same kind of helpful information as offered here and on other mac forums. But im sure its not in thier customer service manuals
Thanks guys

Great stuff WhiteiPhone, I wish I found this guide 15 minutes ago lol.
Anyways, I used this guide: http://www.macgeekblog.com/blog/arch...ne-3g-now.html
It takes you through step by step in Simple Mode, for those that cbf doing Expert Mode (although WhiteiPhone's guide does look ridiculously easy, some people may want to save an extra minute or two and go via simple mode).
And now we wait for apps...

Crash
I had this problem yesterday, and upon finding your guide figured I'd try it, in hopes that you'd done something I hadn't.
Unfortunately My iphone *still* will not progress past the apple logo screen after jailbreaking. Followed ALL instructions, and used the orig. firmware posted here on the forums, but unfortunately still had zero luck. Any ideas? seems to be stuck in an endless reboot cycle, as it flashes, and the apple logo comes back every 20 minutes or so
*edit* also your link to the custom firmware requires a password...if you didnt already know that

Great guide thanks so very much Noobs paradise his one
Well, I got through to DFU fail and then iTunes began the restore of the custom file and just got an error that iPhone could not be restored,
Attempted a couple of times but just would not work.
I updated and restored iPhone before I started so I am figuring just maybe :
1. The software update negated the ability of Pwnage to work or
2. The custom restore file needs to have the word custom removed from the name or
3. Maybe it needs to be placed in the iYunes library
Got it done. mistake was that I made was that I didn't use the downloaded file but my back up file.
So ... follow the instruction to the full and it works great.

By jailbreaking it, would it be easy to update in the future when Apple releases firmware updates? would you need to restore or do something before updating? and then jailbreaking again?

are you using iPhone3G?
if yes try downloading the restore file from apple to restore your iPhone back to original settings, then using pwnageTool to jailbreak it

So to clarify, you're saying to try restoring it to factory defaults BEFORE installing the custom firmware?

In Theory It Should Jailbreak Any iPhone3G, Maybe Some Windows Users Can Try
File Just Needs To Be Unzipped

After reveiving an sms saying Network Unlocked please backup data and restore in iTunes, I did. After restoring my 3g iPhone it was Networked Unlocked.
Last night I decided to Jailbreak it and followed the steps in this thread using Pwnage Tool. The iPhone is now Jailbroken and it is still Networked Unlocked.
