Jailbreaking & unlocking your 1st Gen iPhone running 2.0 Firmware

FAQ:
Does it matter that I used ZiPhone on my previous unlock? - Nup!
Will this work on an iPhone 3G? - Yes and No, it'll jailbreak (free apps, ssh etc) but doesn't Network unlock the phone
I've put my phone in DFU mode and now I'm stuck! - You'll need to restore it and start again following my guide - restore with the 2.0 Firmware.
Halp! My iPhone isn't working now! whatever shall I do!? - Put your iPhone in DFU mode, restore the firmware and start again!
How Do I Install Installer.app? - You don't, Cydia supersedes Installer, also a load of apps aren't made to work with 2.0 yet.
Does this work on a PC? - Sorry, Pwnage is only for Mac but I've heard you can get winpwn which probably isn't updated to do this yet Main Page - WinPwn
iPhone 3G Users follow this guide - http://forums.mactalk.com.au/47/5402...tml#post583007
LIV2's Steps to success
Download the Firmware 2.0 and Pwnage
FW 2.0 - download
Pwnage 2.0 - http://mactalk.cachefly.net/PwnageTool_2.0.zip
Bootloaders - http://heyinternet.com/bootloaders.zip
Unzip these all where you download them.
  1. Plug in your iPhone, leave iTunes running
  2. Restore/Update your iPhone to the 2.0 Firmware using iTunes as if you were a legit iphone user.
  3. Open Pwnage, Choose advanced mode, then click iPhone if you've got a 1st gen
  4. Click Next
  5. Double-click "browse for ipsw" and open the 2.0 firmware you just downloaded
  6. double click "general" and tick "Enable Baseband Update"
  7. hit next, ensure only Neuter Bootloader, Unlock Baseband and Autp Delete BootNeuter.app are ticked
  8. Click next until you get to the custom logo's screen and untick both of them (unless you like their logos)
  9. hit next again, which will give you a list of options, double click on "Build"
  10. A Dialog will come up saying "Bootloader 3.9 not found" click no then it will ask if you want to browse to the file. click yes, and browse to where you've put the file called bl-36.bin. it will ask you the same thing for the 4.6 bootloader, click no when it asks you to search the net for it, then yes when it asks you to browse to the file and browse to the bl-46.bin you've got there
  11. Save your custom firmware somewhere.
  12. It will now ask you if you've pwnd your iPhone using the Pwnage app previously, if not or if you've wiped the phone since then - press no and follow the instructions you're given by pwnage. otherwise click "yes" and continue on
  13. once that's done, unplug the iphone and power off the iphone the normal way. Hold down the home button and plug the cable in, holding the home button down while the Apple logo comes up and eventually you'll get a "Connect to itunes" logo on the screen with a picture of a dock cable
  14. option click restore in iTunes and hold down option while clicking restore, open the custom firmware you just created with iPwn and it'll begin the flashing process.
  15. enjoy!
GPRS not working?
Connect your iPhone to a WIFI connection and go to this site: APN Changer
Follow the instructions there to add the correct details to your phone

Question. I have downloaded the 2.0 firmware from the link above, but when I try to load it in PwnageTool it says 'Wrong Firmware Bundle Selected'. I have downloaded it about five times now and I have no idea what I am doing wrong..

Remove the .zip at the end so it's just .ipsw

Also, how big is the file you downloaded?

Unless you know what you're doing, playing with boot neuter is a bad idea.
Now that I know how to get simple mode to work I'll update this later with info on how to get the BB updated and everything through simple mode.

In the meantime, feel free to follow this guide, you'll still be able to restore it later and do the updates if you want

It's looks like the correct firmware.
Try This Link
Also here for the boot loaders.

Mine just finished Boot Nueter process, rebooted and all seems to be good.

EDIT: Linux_insidev2
You mean that little curve ball the Dev Team included?

EDIT 2: I guess restoring an old back up from 1.1.4 is a bad idea?

I've restored mine from a 1.1.4 backup with no issues.

Mine wasn't allowing simple mode because mine was running 1.1.4 and had moved the 2.0 fw out of the itunes folder where it keeps them.

Hmmm, I thought the reason people we getting asked to activate in iTunes was due to the pop up in Pwned "are you a Legit user" every one that clicked yes was asked by iTunes to activate

Thanks again for the tips.

Guess that's only in simple mode, I guess it means "hey is your iphone actually on the carrier it's supposed to be on?" and doesn't touch lockdownd or the baseband :P

Is the firmware link mentioned in this post the OFFICIAL firmware that is meant to run on first Gen iPhones? I just read that there are two types floating around with the exact same file name.

Update 3: If you get Error 1600 from iTunes, try: mkdir “~/Library/iTunes/Device Support” ; if that directory already exists, remove any files in it. Then re-run PwnageTool.
