when i get to the bit where it finishes building the custom firmware, and asks if you've pwned before - i select no and it takes me to the next screen which is where you're supposed to go into DFU mode. PwnageTool automatically says that DFU mode has failed. Should I be doing it manually?

You are doing what I did.... instead - leave your phone on. Then when it asks if you've pwnd before say no. It will then step by step (Read what it says on the screen) take you through entering DFU mode. Do as it says and it will work.
I'm currently restoring my iPhone but think i've borked it by not moving my custom file to the right location in iTunes.

Worked like a charm on my 1.1.4 that had been done with iLiberty
Cheers for the guide
With the DFO failed thing, I just pressed next, then disconnected the phone, held the home button and connected, then resored with the custom firmware

If you're having trouble with doing this hack, despite it being pretty easy and trust a virtual stranger with your iPhone, check out this thread: http://forums.mactalk.com.au/47/5398...an-do-you.html

yea that's what i was doing - choosing No, and then next. it then went straight to DFU Mode Failed screen with no guide to getting it into the right mode, the only option was to return to the beginning of the wizard. but rebooting phone seemed to sort it

Just remember to move the Hacked Upgrade that you have created into the update section of iTunes.
If you don't do that you will update to 2.0 locked version. You need to re-enter DFU and move the hacked firmware into
User/library/itunes/iphone software updates - (I removed the proper 2.0 restore first)

I'm getting the same thing on Macbook Pro 10.5.4.. Will bounce in the dock, and then no open. Only way to close is to force quit. Tried re downloading and restarting. No go.

Someone has mentioned it on the dev's blog comments, so maybe it's something. Going to try it on my other MacBook Pro (non 10.5.4).
