How To - iPhone on Three - Configuring 3

Configuring:

After receiving your unlock from your carrier in iTunes:

1. Insert your 3 SIM and restore the iPhone in iTunes if your phone still can't make calls

2. Put the APN in: 3services (Settings -> General -> Cellular Network Data) - no username or password

3. Set the voicemail button to work: *5005*86*333# then press call

4. Bookmark your Three Call and Usage Tracker in Safari
http://three.net.au/hss/getmyaccount.do

5. If you need one, add smtp.three.net.au as an additional outgoing mail server. It is 20c per message on some plans, so you may prefer to use another.

6. If you want a "visual voicemail" style thing: Set up your Three voicemail in mail (link).

You're done

The plans:

If you'd like $300 credit and free 2GB of data, you can change to a Three iPhone plan (1GB on $49 cap).
You will have to pay off your existing handset instalments if any, but the $300 should be enough to cover that. You will need to be over half way through your contract too.

What it's like:

My 3 iPhone experience so far - 9/10

The other thing is that the data speed on Three is at least 2 or 3 times faster than the mobile data on optus.

The results are way better than Telstra, who charged me $25 for 1meg on the iphone... im serious too!

Ok one question? I haven't got my iphone yet but like you want to buy from Tlife & unlock for three. When I first get it after bought outright do I plug it in with itunes and do anything even though there wont be a sim with as I assume? Do i need to do anything so it ready to be unlocked after the 72 hour odd time frame?

Okay, here's a question...I don't have Settings -> General -> Cellular Network Data on my 3G...is that normal? I was looking for the APN settings the other day and couldn't find them anywhere...

I'm guessing that's cos my phone is still locked.

If your phone is unlocked you will see Settings/ General/ Network (its above bluetooth)/ cellular data network

If your phone is not unlocked (or it maybe unlocked but you have restored it via Itunes) you wont find it.

If your phone is unlocked and you whack another sim in that is, AFAIK

I've been digging around my JB'd 2.0 and found that the carrier settings for australia Block the cellular data settings for Telstra Optus and Vodafone sims - whacking a Three sim in an unlocked iPhone will allow you to edit the details.
