As noted by others, this is INCORRECT. I thought I would quote your text in a reply to ensure people don't get confused by it.
Using '3services' allows you access to the 'real' internet just fine and also allows you to access your account details/usage on three.net.au. I have been using this APN since day 1.
The limitation used to exist on Three many moons ago but it has long been removed allowed full access to the internet regardless of which of the two APN's you choose.

Hmmm... interesting, because "3services" still doesn't work for me (just checked again).
I've also seen a few articles from 3 support page that refer to changing between "3services" and "3netaccess" for internet access on some handsets (then again, some of those pages are really old...).
However, it works for other people, apparently (I don't doubt that, to be clear).
Maybe it's the plan I'm on? I'm currently with one of those business plans, with pay-as-you-go data, at $4.00 per MB (ouch).
Well, sorry for potentially confusing other people with (at least partially) incorrect information... I just wanted to help (please don't hate me). ;-)
Cheers

ZoD, are you aware that you will be charged $1.65/mb while you are roaming? This is above and beyond your X-Series pack, it is not included in your usage.

Yeah well aware of the costs but thanks for telling me just in case. It's good to know the data roaming feature works on my iphone though.

Still can't get Three e-mail
Hi,
I have followed CARLOW1's instructions to the letter, I can receive e-mails by not send them, it says it can't find the SMPT server:
These are my settings:
IMAP account
Name: My Name
Address: username@three.com.au
Description: username@three.com.au
Incoming Mail server
Host Name: mail.three.net.au
User Name: username@three.com.au
Password: ******
Outgoing Mail Server
SMTP: smtp.three.net.au
Advanced>Incoming Settings
Use SSL: Off
Authentication: Password
Server Port: 143
I know my user name and password are correct because I can access e-mails on the webmail.three.com.au
I am also having trouble setting up Outlook POP to collect the mail as well on my home PC....
any suggestions
cheers
Dean

Lewdannie your incoming settings seem to be ok if you can receive emails.
What are your settings for your primary outgoing server?
It should be something like this.
Server: smtp.three.net.au
Username: leave blank
Password: leave blank
Use SSL: off
Authentication: password
Server port: 25

However, it can take this long for telstra to sms you saying it's ready, but if you wait about 24hrs after requesting an unlock, you can restore your iphone as per the above instructions just fine..
Apple's turn around time for unlocking the phones is really good, it's just the carriers who are delaying the sms notification.
I bought my iphone a 330pm yesterday, and plugged in to restore at 10am today with no sms notification from telstra, and it was already unlocked.. give it a go

hm, i tried that... i called up optus to get it unlocked on tuesday around lunch time and restored it just then, but my 3 sim isn't working still... so i might just have to wait a few more days or until i get the sms that, or i'm doing something wrong when restoring...

Is this still the current way to get going with Three on an unlocked iPhone?

3. Set the voicemail button to work: *5005*86*333# then press call
4. Bookmark your Three Call and Usage Tracker in Safari
http://three.net.au/hss/getmyaccount.do
5. If you need one, add smtp.three.net.au as an additional outgoing mail server. It is 20c per message on some plans, so you may prefer to use another.
6. If you want a "visual voicemail" style thing: Set up your Three voicemail in mail (link).
You're done

Outgoing Mail Server for Bigpond account
Hi all,
I've just set up my iphone and all is working except my outgoing mail under the bigpond account. I have added smtp.three.net.au as an additional outgoing server but still no luck.
My .mac mail seems to work fine.
Does anyone know how I can send emails using my bigpond account?
Thanks.
