Wait a minute. Vodafone told me I could put my old sim in my new iPhone and my contacts list would transfer. It has. But are you saying that the old sim can't connect to the cellular network stuff?

Yes that's right your mobile internet comes off through your xseries. It also only works within 3's coverage.
If you go out of 3's coverage then your phone will roam onto telstra. Voice calls don't incur any extra charges but internet involves a hefty fee of $1.65/MB once you use the measly 2MB roaming data allowance. So if you see "Roaming" on the phone DON'T use any data unless you want to pay extra for it.

Thanks for the info. I thought there would be something like that on 3. Another thing is how accurate is the 3 coverage on the iphone? Can I accidentally be in roaming area even thought my iphone says 3 or vice versa?
Just want to be sure before I sign up for the x-series plan.

If the phone says 3G then you are most definitely on 3G and NOT roaming. When you roam the phone has to switch network hence you WILL get ROAMING on the screen so you can't accidentally use roaming data if you're looking at the screen.

Yes. The original iPhone will not work with a SIM from Three Australia.

Sorry I'm new to this.
What do you mean by restore. I don't have anything on there anyway.
I want to put my 3 sim in and use that but the APN thing isn't coming up? Just get the VPN option etc. Is because i'm not doing a restore?
I rang optus and they said because my phone in Post-Paid that it's unlocked already?

Optus finally unlocked my phone, so I've put my 3 SIM in. It's mostly working well so far, except I can't send sms messages. Receive yes, send no. I found the relevant message centre number for Three: +61430004010, and added it to the code which is supposed to set the message centre:
*5005*7062*+61430004010#
However, I get the following message "Error performing request Unknown Error"
Anyone else have this issue?

All sorted now. In case anyone else needs to set this, the correct code was:
**5005*7672*+61430004010#
