im creating a Three Australia Bundle that sets these settings, once testing is done ill provide details on how to install on a jailbroken phone
Looks like we have some success
http://hewball.com.au/Hutchison_au.bundle.zip
Copy the extracted Zip above to /System/Library/Carrier Bundles
symlink the carrier id to the bundle
(need to be Ssh'd to the iphone here)
cd /System/Library/Carrier Bundles/
ln -s Hutchison_au.bundle/ 50506
reboot phone

Does anyone know how to check their data usage on 3? I've got an explorer pack, but I can't figure out how to check how much I've used. I suspect the iPhone doesn't support it. Can I only check my usage from the phone itself? Any help or guidence would be appreciated. Thanks.

If your iPhone is set up via 3services in the APN setting, you can navigate to My Three via this address: http://three.net.au/grd/gethome.do
From there you an access all your Planet 3 services.

Thanks Dminieri. I had that set up already, I just failed to see the part where it says "Mobile broadband may not be updated for 48 hours" Hopefully tomorrow I can see how much data I've used.

I'm on a contract with telstra and I can see the above settings even though I've never requested an unlock... am i incredibly lucky or is this normal... in fact if I go to carrier I get optus, vodafone and telstra appear... is my phone unlocked by accident?

No I don't believe so but that would be normal as telstra had to put the sim inside it and set it up... I might try my three sim card and settings tonight...

Unlock waiting times
For all those waiting for an unlock sms from either telstra/optus - theres no need to wait
Telstra advises up to 72hrs before the unlock is processed, and there have been reports of people waiting up to 10 days!
However, it can take this long for telstra to sms you saying it's ready, but if you wait about 24hrs after requesting an unlock, you can restore your iphone as per the above instructions just fine..
Apple's turn around time for unlocking the phones is really good, it's just the carriers who are delaying the sms notification.
I bought my iphone a 330pm yesterday, and plugged in to restore at 10am today with no sms notification from telstra, and it was already unlocked.. give it a go

Great guide!
I have a question though. I have managed to get Planet 3 and 3 Email to work on my iPhone. Anyone know if 3 mobile internet will work? Anyone know how to set it up? I am thinking about signing up for the X-series but I don't know if its going to work.

Ofcourse it does. I'm happily using the 500Mb xseries plan on mine and have to say its pretty darn fast! Better than some of the Wi-Fi's I'm using!
As long as you set the APN to '3services' and you have called Three and subscribed to xseries you're up and running.

I can't wait to get an iphone now!!! I have my contract with 3 still and now I just have to save for an iphone prepaid, I'm in the country so it's a bit hard to get to town to just book one, might wait till someone puts them up on the site (optus) for sale there!

Sounds good. So basically if I have X-series subscribed, it switches over to mobile internet when I surf outside of Planet 3? Also x-series only works when theres 3 coverage right? What happens when I go out of 3 coverage? Does that incur extra fees?
