1.1.3/1.1.4 YouTube over GPRS

Anyone on a network other than Telstra probably knows you can't view YT videos on your iphone over GPRS anymore on 1.1.3 or 1.1.4

Well, you now can.

On a search for the answer i found a fix.

Download this: Patched Youtube.app

Extract it to your desktop and open up a terminal
ssh into your iphone
Code:
ssh root@ipforyouriphonehere
Password: alpine
cd /Applications
mv YouTube.app YouTube.backup
exit
scp -r ~/Desktop/YouTube.app root@ipaddressofiphone:/Applications/
Password: alpine
ssh root@ipaddressofiphone
Password: alpine
cd /Applications/
cp YouTube.backup/icon.png YouTube.app/icon.png
chmod -R 755 YouTube.app
exit
Voila

From 56 up to 114Kbps

Still, over edge the iphone loads a more compressed version of the video that is many times smaller in filesize.

Everything is fine up till these steps:

cp YouTube.backup/icon.png YouTube.app/icon.png
chmod -R 755 YouTube.app
exit

It cannot find YouTube.app.

Now YouTube doesn't work. (So i restored the .backup) Can you fix the steps?

I just followed the guide myself and it worked

when you did scp did it list the files sending?

Here is exactly what I did - Ignore the line that says rm -rf as I already have a backup and don't need to make another.

Code:
Mattbook:~ matt$ ssh root@192.168.1.5
# cd /Applications
# rm -rf YouTube.app
# exit
scp -r ~/Desktop/YouTube.app root@192.168.1.5:/Applications
Mattbook:~ matt$ ssh root@192.168.1.5
# cd /Applications
# cp YouTube.backup/icon.png YouTube.app/icon.png
# chmod -R 755 YouTube.app
# exit

Alright just tried it again and it worked, must have missed a skip or something!, thanks for this - honestly this should have always been part of the app.. even if it takes ages, at least it still loads. (And honestly it's not THAT slow..)

Thanks!

If you don't know what it is, you really shouldn't be messing with it.

I only got my iPhone yesterday so I'm still learning about it.

If someone could answer my question that would be great!
