This simple task actually took me 30 minutes to google... so I thought I'd share it.
When you get a Virgin Mobile sim card and stick it into the iPhone, it displays Yes Optus as the carrier when you'd expect Virgin Mobile. Seems strange that Virgin doesn't bother changing the carrier name to promote your company...
Anyways, after upgrading to 1.1.3, someone mentioned about
http://wpool.com/iphone as a repository. Inside Installer, I added that repository which gave me access to 3 Localisation apps. 2 of them were for fixing the number format etc which has been described in this forum through the wonderful "babystep" guides.
The 3rd one was to get the carrier logo. Apparently since Yes Optus didn't fit in that little area, it was actually causing the phone to be a bit slow. It was really simple to install, but as you would expect, it displayed the Yes Optus logo instead of the Virgin mobile. So I set off on the journey to find a way to get the actual Virgin Mobile logo displayed without editing any files.
The solution? An app called "Make it Mine". It is very simple. You just type in "Virgin" or "virgin" or "Virgin Mobile" as the carrier. All of them seems to work. Once you give it a fake name, it gives you the Virgin Mobile Logo.
Just for fun, you can change it to "Telstra" to get the Tel$tra logo, and Vodafone for vodafone. In the end it doesn't really matter, but it's nice to know that you have another piece of the screen realestate under your control
