If there was no iphone, I would of got a touch by now. They just refreshed the ipod line, I doubt we see a new touch before a 32gb iphone.

The first versions of the iPod Touch and iPhone had capacity bumps in February this year.

Maybe we can expect a similar thing next February.

Upgrading / changing phones on an optus iphone cap would be extremely costly. You would need to pay out the contract, which would be the (cap price + phone repayment price) * remaining months on contract. I know this as I did a similar thing on Three with my N95.

Luckily when I joined Three, I signed up with a cap that had a $20 minimum spend, and was able to sell my N95 to a mate for a good price.

For these reasons, I went on a 12 month plan with Optus.

Why would they bother when they can barely supply enough of the current models?

Most people I know holding off for 32gb is because they already have a first gen iPhone. I personally don't see any justification of going for a 32gb iPhone UNLESS the processor, graphics and resolutions is double than what it is now.

I doubt we'll see one now, 2 months the iPhone has been out.

Give it another 3-4 months and I think we'll see it (though it won't get as many sales due to the fact most people who bought iPhones are tied into contracts).

I was always under the impression that because the iTouch lacks the phone, it could always fit double the capacity of the highest iPhone.
Therefore a 32gb iPhone means also a 64gb iTouch (for $800 lol).

This is kinda where I am at.

I detest contracts and use prepaid most of the time, occasionally venturing onto a plan but never one which obliges me to remain with that particular telco for any set length of time... I have had my iPhone since last August and I still like it.

Data wise, EDGE is a bit naff, but on the other hand, I don't have much time for fiddling when at work, at home I use my wifi, and when out and about I am usually busy with other things... so 3G is not a selling point for me, because EDGE is not so bad with IM and email as perhaps with browsing the web which is a rarity for me when not at home.

When there *are* hardware upgrades, they will have to be pretty compelling for me to upgrade my phone. A better camera might be one acceptable thing, as well as a faster processor... and better battery life (user serviceable battery would be good too but that wont ever happen).

The Touch is a lot thinner than the iPhone though, which is partly what makes it so attractive. I have the first gen iPod Touch and it is extremely thin. The new ones are even thinner, which is crazy.

I highly doubt Apple will increase storage on either device (Touch / iPhone) until it can come to a price point that isn't ridiculous. The 32GB Touches are still pretty expensive at the moment. People are buying them, sure, but not HEAPS of people. At $549, it's one of those devices that you either really have a use for or just can't justify the cost. So I reckon when we start seeing 64GB Touches, then we'll see the 32GB iPhones, but doubt it'll be any time soon. Maybe when the iPhone hits the 6-month mark or even possibly the 1-year mark. I think it's precisely the capacity vs cost ratio at the moment which is the reason Apple kept the classic in its iPod lineup. They can't just jump in and give us a 64GB of anything yet 'cause it's too costly (and if they can't give us a 64GB iPod Touch, we probably won't get a 32GB iPhone yet, either).

Nope, they're thinner. At least, that's what Steve said. You callin' him a liar?

Also: iPod touch updated -- same screen, new case, Nike+ integration - Engadget

Everywhere I've read says it's thinner. Haven't ever seen one in person to see for myself, though.

Edit: Interesting. Wikipedia says it's 0.5mm thicker, so if that's the case, you are correct.

iPod Touch - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Interesting, since everywhere/everyone says it's Thinner, including Steve himself. I'm *guessing* it's thinner in some places because of the contour, but thicker right in the very middle.

Edit 2: So Steve is a liar
