Cool Constantly accidentally muting iPhone 3G

Hi All,

I have a problem with my iPhone 3G. I very *constantly* accidentally flip it onto mute, multiple times a day.

The way I hold it hovers near the mute switch and often it just flicks. Even yesterday it was on my desk and I bumped it (very lightly) into a diet coke can.. and it muted.

It's driving me nuts.. so I thought maybe my switch is crap so I compared to my mate's iPhone and his button is *much* harder to flip which I think explains why I hit it accidentally so often.

Anyone else having this issue? Curious.

Thanks,
Trent

On my iPhone it takes quite a bit of pressure to move that switch. Are you sure yours isn't just faulty. It shouldn't move that easily.

I quite suspect it's faulty and want to warranty it ( but I'm in perth so I'll have to post it off and be without my iPhone for a while? ). .maybe I wait til I'm in Melbourne at the end of November?

Curious if it's a common issue.

More poll results than posts and poll results are easier to read than posts.. then again easier to click random buttons..

Still I think proof of effectiveness is in the pudding :P

That's my theory anyway and I'm sticking to it.

There could well be a problem with the silent switches. I had my first iPhone 3G replaced because it snapped off within the first two weeks. Called Apple, and spoke to a guy who asked if I could take some photos of it and email them to him. Did that, and he agreed that it wasn't my fault, sent me a replacement, and when that arrived, I just had to send the broken one back to him. Too easy. Although, you need a credit card with $800 on it in case you never return the faulty one.
That said, I'm not sure they'd do that just because the switch is a bit loose. Give Apple a call.

Mute button?
You mean the silent switch on the side next to the volume control?

I've touched the mute button against my cheek when on a call a couple of times.

No problems here but a silico case helps as it keeps the switch away from pasionfingers.

Maybe if you stopped being so god damned left handed all the time... You're not fooling anyone

I'll sometimes knock mine while it's in my pocket, usually when I put my hand in to take it out. But now that I think about it, I don't think I've knocked it in a long time.

I use the Switcheasy Rebel case which makes the silent button recessed and you have to be deliberate to turn it on and off.

I've never accidentally muted my iPhone, but I keep forgetting to un-mute it, or turn the volume back up when I come out of meetings and such...

Cheers
Steffen.
