You could say set silent and have that to go back to your normal setting at a latter time like you would do when setting an alarm

It sounds like yours is faulty. It takes considerable pressure to flick the switch, it would be almost impossible to just "bump" it. Send it back for repair. See if you can try someone elses iphone to see if it's the same as yours, i'm willing to bet there's a physical problem.

I've not had that problem, but I did hang up on a client once when I put the phone up to my ear. Must have pressed the end call area of the screen

This is the same for me. Would be nice to have a little icon on it showing that it is still on silent. I liked my nokia that said Silent. It would then remind me to change it over. I forget to look at the side and then realise I've not unmuted it etc. Drives me mad.
