Scrambled iPhone Calls - Sounds like Aliens

Hi,

I have been having on and off problems with my iPhone in that at times when either trying to make or receive a call, they sound warped or heavily digitised.

I have spoken to both Vodafone and Apple about the issue and everytime I have tried to replicate the issue in store at Vodafone, of course it doesn't happen.

I thought I was the only one experiencing this problem, until today I found this article:

AdelaideNow... Apple iPhone in-depth review - one month on

Here is a quote:

Quote:
During the first week of having an iPhone, I noticed that some voice calls were scrambled, as if they'd been squeezed through an alien voice filter. Imagine Futurama's Bender crossed with a fax handshake.
That is exactly the issue I am having.

So is this an issue that more people are experiencing or am I just one of a few?

Ok, I just checked out your post, but that is the iPhone calling itself.

Mine doesn't do that (yet).

It only happens when making or receiving calls, on average once or twice a week.

Holy crap!

I had this same issue the other week and it was freaking me out. I hung up on the caller and redialed which solved the problem. It has only happened once for me. iPhone 2.0.2 firmware now but I'm sure it happened on 2.0.1 and not 2.0.2 (yet?).

I'm with Vodafone too.

I find that when I hang up and then dial again it solves the problem as well.

Not really a suitable fix though, considering we pay flagfall each time we have to do that.

And, like with what happened with me last week, the number come up blocked, I answered the phone and it was all scrambled, so I hanged up and had no way of knowing who it was.

The person ended up calling back half an hour later, but still not really a great way to operate! They said they could hear it all scrambled from their end as well.

It would be great to know if this is an issue isolated to Vodafone customers or more widespread.

If you had read the post, it was actually voicemail calling me but I did experience the garbled voice you mentioned.

Ok sorry, I didn't read the last post you made.

The first post said the phone was calling itself.

Isn't that what happens when you get low 3g reception (with any 3g phone)? the quality dies as the signal dies.

I had this issue but I am not using 3G (even though I have the iPhone 3G).

I'm only on 2G for voice. 3G disabled.

Yep, has happened to me twice. I'm also on Optus. Hanging up and redialing seems to fix the problem, but it's a bit alarming nonetheless.
