Dead iPhone after 5 hours of ownership

Hi, just wondering if anyone had this unfortunate experience, or im the only one. After picking up my iPhone (16Gb) on Friday afternoon, I updated with 2.02 and synced my itunes content over. The phone became very glitchy and would turn off every now and then, sometimes for an hour or so. Roughly 5 hours after I bought it, it permanantley went dead. By this I mean, my mac won't recongnise that it is plugged in, no hard reset can boot it up. I tried everything, but nothing worked, i can only think that the battery has gone caput. It has been sent to Apple this morning by Strathfield car radios.

I have a macbook pro and an ipod already and am very very happy with these products having converted from PC. This has severly soured my experience with Mac products, the bad service and attitude from the sales staff at Strathfield didn't help either.

Has any one had this happen to them, a dead iphone?

they should replace it with a new one immediately.

It's DOA so there should not be a problem

Im sure they will, im not worried about that, although the time it takes to do this will be interesting. Just that I was thinking surely Im not the only one that has had a dud iphone.
from the other forum conversations here, there seems to be quite a few glitches, not just hardware, but software too. This is very unlike Apple.

you dont write in your story that you charged it at all.

maybe connect the power adopter to a power point plug the usb cable into it and connect the other end to your iphone.

same thing happened to mine. You need to charge it for a bit then unplug it from your computer, turn on itunes.
make sure the phone is off, by pressing sleep button and home button. Then hold the home button while connecting it to your computer. Hold the home button until the usb -->Itunes pic comes up on your iphones screen, then it will give you the option to restore. Most likely lodaded a buggy app.

when i plugged it into the computer, there was nothing. Would not recognise anything there. When I plug into the wall, I could hard reset it to the point where it said to plug in the phone to itunes (this is before the boot screen), when I unplug the usb from the wall to attach to computer, it dies.

I read all over the forums about hard resets, soft resets, restoring. But without even getting to a boot screen, nothing can be done.

I just hope no one else out there has had this problem, because even if I get a new one, I will always be wondering when will this thing stuff up again. Kinda soured the experience. On the other hand, I have had my macbook pro for 6 weeks, and it is fantastic.

So Im not bashing the apple product, just very dissapointed.

USB 2.0

for the time that it worked (not that long), it was all fine and dandy, but after it shut itself down, it no longer registered that it was there anymore when plugged in. I have the latest macbook pro and that is what I have been plugging it into. It might be a software issue (2.02) installed itself when I first plugged it into itunes, but surely it wouldn't kill the phone.

It was sent to apple, yesterday morning to see what is up, but the salesperson in the store had a quick look (tried the hard reset e.t.c) and said that yep, it is definately dead.... so maybe I was just an unlucky buyer.... who knows...?

Poor service by Strathfield.

Dead On Arrival means you walk back into the shop and if they cant fix it, you get a new one (provided they have stock).

If they cant (no stock), can another Strathfield outlet give you one? I don't see why not...

the salesperson said their policy was to send it back to apple for apple to check then apple decides what happens. unfortunately the more I think about this transaction, the more pissed off I get. But thanks for all your help guys, really appreciated, will get back to you guys to let you know what happens.
