Mine would still take about an hour to backup. I removed some apps, from about 4 pages now to about 2.5 pages. It backs up in about 5min!

I have had the iphone 3g for about 10 days. Optus $79 cap plan. Prior to this I had a Blackberry pearl with Optus, I have been using a Blackberry since 2001 (I lived in the States).

Without a doubt the iphone 3G has serious issues, even after this latest software "update". The unit really has the feel of an evaluation unit, its not ready for prime time. I love the interface, functionality and concept. But its just plain flaky.

My reception sucks; 3g is as slow as WAP !! and the unit itself is slow, like a 1st generation windows mobile device. I also have weird things happen, like often it locks up or hangs for 30 seconds

I was stupid enough to call the optus iphone helpdesk (its in the philippines if you didnt know); they are totally clueless, of no use what so ever

I might persevere for a little while, but this is becoming hard work; after all its a cell phone, not the space shuttle.....

Slow syncing of iPhone with iTunes issue

I keep reading about the sometimes extremely slow syncing. I had it once and found the following a life saver. So i did some snooping and found a bucket load of "Crash Report" files stored on my Mac.

When syncing the iPhone, the computer sends off each report to Apple, thus it can take alot of time.

1. Navigate to /Users/<username>/Library/Logs/CrashReporter/MobilesDevices
2. Delete the iPhones folder and contents (example: Ben's iPhone)
3. Sync and happy days

** Windows Directory = C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Roaming\Apple Computer\Logs\CrashReporter\MobileDevice\

Wow, what do these represent? does the phone make a note of every time an app crashes?
I've got 171 files (since launch day)

Look i cant be totally sure, but at a guess id say its when an App has an issue or closes unexpectedly. Dont get me wrong, i still believe its a good idea these reports are sent to Apple. I think the process should be changed but.

Quick example below;
  1. Copy Crash Report files from iPhone to computer
  2. Delete Crash Report files from iPhone if copy is successful
  3. Complete backup and sync of iPhone
  4. Notify user sync is completed (current ways are fine)
  5. Send Crash Report files from computer to Apple (tag sent files ready for deletion)
  6. Non tagged files stay on workstation to send after next sync
  7. Delete tagged crash report files

bold with same chip

BlackBerry Bold may be joining the iPhone 3G with reception issues | The Mobile Gadgeteer | ZDNet.com

Well it must be true we are all up for some type of hardware issue as iphone. the report suggests they use the same chip.. what now??? i guess we play the waiting game, i think the company that make the chip will go broke if they need to replace all these phones so that could be the reason why apple is so quiet, they need to find a win / win solution

Updated to 2.0.2 and initially there was no contact lag which was awesome, but it seems to have crept back in some how. It's less than before but it's still there.

I updated to 2.02 on the bloke's brand new 16GB via the PC, it bricked it. I could unbrick it via the Mac, at least (maybe the fw image was corrupt?) but that's the first time I've seen that happen.

Has anyone experience faster battery depletion since upgrading to 2.02? Mine hasn't manage to reach the end of the day everyday since the upgrade whereas previously it would be 25-50%.

Mine has been consistent. Only today it depleted quickly than usual, as I was manually "pushing" my email all through the day at work.

Yeah. After running it for a while now I can safely say it's chewing more battery than it used to. I usually get home from work at around 20%. Before I would usually be well into the green at the end of the day.

Well, ever since 2.0.1 and 2.0.2 , I have been experiencing extra 'usage' in the settings when I haven't been using the phone, with the added experience of the phone depleting itself overnight. My wife's phone is still on 2.0.0 hand her battery depletes as expected. I have the phone both set to the same settings.
