Thanks for clarifying that fother - I guess full CD/radio integration is a bit much to expect for $17 .
I would be interested to hear what you think of the sound quality after some more road testing. Also, if the microphone in the phone picks up your voice ok when combined with road noise etc.

Not bad for $17

(plus I like that it's down low, not up on the windscreen like you seen GPS toys all the time)

Great, I've gone ahead and bought 2 of them.

Hope yours work out just as well!
By the way, although you can see the seller's name in the pic I posted above, just wanted to add that I have no affiliation with them whatsoever, beyond having bought 1 item from them

That $17 fm tuner sounds pretty good! However, before I consider buying, do you guys think that this will work:
Getting a USB car charger and plugging it into an iphone3G dock then using the line out to my car stereo tape deck? Or does that sound ridiculous...

I've recently been using a Griffin iTrip Autopilot. It's not cheap -$150!! - but it is a no fuss solution that works. The quality of the FM transmitter is very good.

Just a follow up on the $17 version, after 2 days of use...
- fade out for incoming calls works really well - gives you time to anticipate the call, and music fades back in as per when using earphones (not surprising, just confirmation really). Haven't used CD/radio at the same time as a call, so can't confirm any fade out there, but I'd be surprised...
- sound quality for calls - the people I've talked to with it in the car have said it sounds clear, easy to hear me - my car is old and not that well sealed, so noisier than lots of newer cars, but people have had no trouble hearing me. Sound from them through the speakers is excellent.
Only hassle I've had was when I cranked the sound up very high on one call, the caller could hear themself because the phone mic was picking up the stereo... no biggie, I just turned it down a little and they said it was fine.
All in all a very good buy I think

ok, so i tried this and it worked. However, the sound quality when the Cassette adaptor is plugged into the 'line-out' of the 3G Dock is horrible but when i plug it into the Iphone's 'line-out' it is perfect.
i think it has something to do with the volume settings when plugged into the dock, anyone know how i can fix this?
Cheers

sorry Honda CRVs only
In my centre consol is a power socket/cigarette lighter and an audio in jack.
1) $2 male to male audio cable into that and headphone socket on the iPhone and turn stereo to AUX and Bpb's your uncle.
2) Normal cigarette charger (belkin whatever) and not only are both problems solved but the iPhone is out of sight from prying eyes but accessible next to you

yeah paid roughly that for postage. overcharging on shipping really, as the packaging was not premium and not delivered super express, but when the item's that cheap, I felt I was still coming out ahead

There is another seller on eBay that charges $30 for the same charger but with free shipping - much cheaper - I bought 2 from this guy - do a search.

As you all would by now know there has been massive issues finding compatible 3g iphone car chargers...
I Initially purchased the Belkin charger model: F8Z184 found on the Apple web site, from dick smith for $29.95, i talked them down to $25. My iphone wouldnt charge as i believe this is actually a 12v charger, and as you all now know from previous posts the iphone 3g requires a 5v output, i.e USB. And instead of the electricity symbol showing on the battery symbol it actually showed like a docking plug symbol over the battery symbol. After letting the battery drain to about half i tried it again. This time an error message displayed on the screen saying that the device wasnt compatible and asking if i wanted to change into 'airplane mode'. It does say on the back of the box "not suitable for ipod 3G" which im tipping means iphone.
I took it back to Dick Smith and explained the problem... The sales assistant tried it on hiis 8gb 3g and it appeared to work, when he tried it on my 16gb 3g again, the same problem occured. There might be a difference in manufacture of the 2 models 8gb vs. 16gb.
Any how, the good news is Dick Smith are now stocking the "Griffin - Powerjolt" car chargers... Now they are a little Pricey, they're selling at DS for $39.95. But these things are backed with a 1 year manufacturers warranty. I immediately took it out of the box in the store and tried it on my phone.. Not a drama in the world.
Another great thing is the charger gives out the full 1amp where alot of others are only 500mAmps. So it still should charge well while the Iphone is in use
Just thought i'd let you guys know, as I've been scouring these sights for good information. Also I've no doubt you'd be able to find them on ebay cheaper
