Australia's sales number loses out to Austria

Medialets Blog Archive The First 1 Million iPhones: Where Did They Go?

Interesting stats. I thought Australia would do better than some of the European nations, but I guess not. Sorry if this was posted before but couldn't find any through my search.

That can't be right. Australia has more than double the population of Austria, so that would mean their penetration rate was about 5 times higher. How can that be?

Could it be because Yerp has more ubiquitous 3G, more people interested in technology and more affluent people in general?

Only 4000? surely we got more than that. I mean I know there were rumours about low numbers but that's just nasty if it's true.

I agree. I read an analyst report with a demographic breakdown. I think it was from Engadget or Giz, but I definately remember reading that there were about 14,000 iPhones sold between Optus and Vodafone.

The report is on the first 1,000,000 handsets sold
it could be that we caught up further down the track?

14,000 may have been sold in the first week, but the first 1,000,000 globally were sold in the first 2-3 days

Sorry forgot to add that it was on the first weekend...unless they sold 1 million in the first 24hrs.

Still trying to find it. It's probably buried deep in those blogs by now though.

The Netherlands got almost three times as many iPhones in a country with four million less people.

There will be a lot of Optus staff members, who have been dealing with very, very angry customers, looking at these figures with some degree of bemusement.

How many extra would they have sold here if 3 had them for sale? I would have bought one, so that's 4001.....

Austria, Australia...they are all the same.
Well at least the US president thought so.
The only difference is that they don't have kangaroos in Austria!

also..to remember the data plans on those other countries...that sold more..where sweeter than what we got here...
I mean if it wasnt for Optus...the IPhone would really suck in Australia.
