Metallic objects near iphone improve reception?

Okay, so I've just noticed something. And no, I'm not wearing my tinfoil hat.

The network just came back up (hurrah) so I was playing with my phone.

On my desk, I have a metal plate bolted into the corner of my desk where my keyboard sits. Anyway, if I sit my phone on this metal plate, or perhaps on my PC, the signal increases to 5 bars. (laying flat).

But if I pick it up, it drops to 3.

I've got a skin on my phone... so when I get home I'm going to line it with tin foil and see if it improves my usual one bar of reception.

Yep, I know, I'm nuts. But hey it's worth a try. If you want, experiment with metal surfaces, stuff like that and see if it improves your reception.

its most likely the metal plate is reflecting signal into the phone

putting foil inside the skin might work or it might do the opposite eg block the signal

I've always wondered if that's the effect you get with the "i-tena". Is it made from a metallic substance? personally I think its all snake oil like the hiclone, but some people swear by it.

I'd hate to think that the thing is boosting the signal so much that it will be irradiating my ear and my goolies

just unlock the damn phone so it doesn't keep going to sleep, that was annoying...

Sounded radio active once he put the thing on

Hmm, that would explain why I get such good signal in my favourite hide-out. The clothes dryer.

Cheers
Steffen.

On their site they state they tested it with the "new iphone" and it works. I think I'll order one, any improvement would really help in my location

I had one of these things in my Motorola V6Maxx on Telstra's NextG network. Although mine was pretty dodgy it worked splendid... it usually boosted signal by 2bars...

It said on the packaging that all it did was capture stray radiowaves and direct them to the phones antenna.
