Doing the relatively simple maths, your $10 data pack is getting you 150MB - so the extra $5 and $10 from your included data is clearly getting you 10MB and 20MB, respectively. If they were being charged at the PAYG rate, the data allowances would only be 155MB and 160MB, as you said.
Now, you can take the word of your Telstra person, or what's written clearly on Telstra's website by Telstra itself. I imagine you'd be contracting on Telstra's terms, so I'm not sure whether you can say that the Telstra person's advice is necessarily definitive proof of what they're doing (and we all know how reliable some telco staff can be  ).
FWIW, I sat down with a Telstra person at [T]Life to work it out under the old system (as anachronistic as it was to get to 93MB ($29/80MB + $5) and 107MB ($19/80MB + $10)), and have to conclude that they ditched the old system for what we've now both (in a roundabout way) described - which, in either case, is a real shame.

Have we done this before? If so, I've forgotten all about it. Anyway, it seems to come down to us receiving different signals from various sources in Telstra. The web site has a lot of weight though, in comparison to verbal statements by highly trained staff, or even the Telstra people I've been talking to...
Obviously, I would very much prefer you to be right on this. At the moment I'm taking the defensive stance and assume the worst.
It would be really cool if the handful of Telstra people on this forum could clarify this once and for all.

I am beginning to wonder whether NextG/Telstra have superior coverage, in any case... yesterday I was out in the sticks of the Myall Lakes National Park with a friend, quite a way from any town, and she had 3 bars of reception on her Optus phone, and I had *none* on my NextG phone (I had dropped the SIM into the NextG phone instead of having it in the iphone, thinking that reception might be better... wrong!)

Had a 1st gen iPhone so waited a few weeks to get mine. Got the $69 16gb Telstra plan today with a $29 data pack, so 470mb of data is not too bad. More worried about using up all the phone credit than using up the data to be honest.
Plus it looks like I might make a small profit on my 1st gen phone on eBay.

How did you work this out? I thought the $29 data pack provided 300MB data per month.

I have a First Gen iPhone and am thinking of moving over to a Telstra plan for the Edge speeds and coverage.
I have one question about this whole data browse packs on Telstra.
Do these data packs take credit out of your included credit on your plan or are they in addition to your plan costs?
i.e. If I am on a $20 plan and then choose the $10/150MB data addon.
Will that mean I will pay $30 at end of month or will the $10 come out of my included credit and leave me with $10 for calls and sms? So only pay $20 for the month?

This might seam stupid. But how can i check how much data ive actually used with Telstra?
I use a sim on my Plan and a Pre-Paid sim when i need to, so the iPhone usage meter wont be very gud for acuracy.
I signed up for telstra online and it only shows the home-phone bill?
(P.S im 16 so its all under mums name)

You can either check on line
https://es.telstra.com/MyDataUsage/datausage.jsp
(need to have a Telstra online log in... and the first time add your mobile number in to this screen.
or via your iPhone
Settings / Phone / Telstra Services / BIgpond Mobile for iPhone
then scroll down the webpage it loads to My Account
and voila "Data Usage Snapshot

I just got a txt from Telstra saying I have gone over my 20mb by 112%. I thought, for one, they were meant to send a message when I was at 80%, and that the plans got increased? :/

Is the use of these telstra services free from the iphone? I'm sure its written somewhere in my contract but yeh, help appreciated  |
