The per MB rate difference has some significance for the iPhone plans.
Eg: At the moment, they calculate your rate for your existing iPhone plan data allowance based on the per MB rate of your add-on Data Package.
So, currently, a $10/20MB pack gets you a rate of $0.50, so combine that with an iPhone plan with $5 of included data and you get $5+$10=$15/0.50=30MB, or for $10 included data you get $10+$10=$20/0.5=40MB.
In the same way, combine a $29/80MB data pack (@ $0.36/MB) gets you $5+$29=$34/0.36=93MB and $10+$29=$39/0.36=107MB.
Now, if Telstra maintains its current method for determining data allowances, those numbers should change to:
$5 included + $10 pack @10/150=$0.067/MB = 15/0.067 = 223MB
$10 included + $10 pack @10/150=$0.067/MB = 20/0.067 = 298MB
$5 included + $29 pack @29/300=$0.097/MB = 34/0.097 = 350MB
$10 included + $29 pack @29/300=$0.097/MB = 39/0.097 = 402MB
So with the $10 pack you get an extra 73MB/148MB from your included data, while on the $29 pack you only get an extra 50MB/102MB.
Anyway, to use their current iPhone plans, you get:
- 350MB on the $59 iPhone plan (up from 93MB) and $30 worth of calls; and
- 402MB on the $89, $109 and $129 iPhone plans (up from 107MB) and $60, $80 and $100 worth of calls, respectively.
It would be interesting to see how this now compares in value with Optus. NeoRicen - care to give us a hand with the rest of it?
