Whereis Maps and AGPS?

Hi all,

It would appear that Whereis maps either does, or will, support AGPS.

For those with Telstra, Whereis maps is free browsing from your iphone.

I've tried it, not sure if it's meant to be working yet or not but there is an option there.

Go into Whereis maps from your Bigpond Menu.

Select "My Account"

Select "Location Preference"

Select "My Location Settings"

There's a setting there to allow AGPS location. Mine was on, but turn it on if it's not for you.

I'm honestly not sure if it works yet for iphone... but it doesn't hurt to have it turned on.

And yes, before anyone says, I know that Google Maps is so many levels above whereis maps that it's almost embarrassing, but for those of us on Telstra any saving in data has got to be good

I'm sure the saving in data is good, but it doesn't seem like Google maps uses much data at all. It was one of the acceptable things on a 1st gen iPhone over GPRS.

I'd be interested for someone with a car (I don't have one!) to take a reasonable sized trip, and measure the data used. But yep I do tend to agree, it would appear that if you are just walking around it loads up a map of the local area which doesn't change unless you move it with your finger or move off the edge of the map.
