Asking people who's got their iPhones on Postpaid
Hi there,
I have heard from a friend that in order to get an iPhone on Postpaid w/ Optus, I would need an ABN. Well, I am an international student and I don't have one (though I only have TFN and a NAB bank statement). When I first signed a contract with Three, all they needed was just a bank statement and two IDs (I used my passport and my credit card).
Is this true? What if I don't have it then what can I do?
Thank you in advance.
Neil.

I am unsure whether you would be applicable for the plan... but no you don't need an ABN at all.

I'm staying in Australia for the next 3 years. If I could sign up for a $69 plan on 3, this should be alright as well. (Yeah, credit check does vary).
Just ask the friend to clarify a little further, he says MyMac is the one that requires ABN (do they?)

Yes, at the current time My Mac Australia on Flinders St requires a credit check. This is specific to this store only, however. They will eventually sell it normally... but at the moment their deal with Optus is for business only.

if you are staying for 3 years that's not gonna be enough, technically your not a permanent Australian resident thus you should indicate so at time of application, my understanding is that unless you are a PR you are not legally entitled to credit facilities

Actually for cellphone contract it should be fine I think. Even though I tried escaping the country, they can still either charge me on credit card or sue me. Except that the thing I cannot have is ABN (I think). Passport, credit card and student i.d. should be enough (like always).
But MyMac does require ABN so bad luck for me. I'll probably have to go to Optus and put my name in that raincheck list.

I'm an international student myself (here for the next 3.5 yrs) and got the iPhone on postpaid from the apple store (with optus).
As far as I know there was no credit check, just took a long my passport, bank statement and phone bill. Had no problems and it only took about 10mins to actually sign up before I walked out with a phone.
