Optus calls dropping out even though a full signal?? Anyone else?
Hi ya,
I've been experience some weird drop outs of calls.
I was getting a few with the iPhone and hubby has taken it away with him so I've reverted to my Nokia for a week. I am struggling to make calls even though I have a full signal. This is bizarre.
I've moved from Vodafone to Optus and I've never had any calls drop out like this before. Maps show I should have good reception for this area.
Anyone else with this problem? Anything I can do?
Thanks
Poppet

I've experienced several dropouts tonight at around 815pm. I'm in Sydney and was speaking to a friend in Melbourne. Both iPhones were fully charged and had full 3G coverage bars. After three dropouts over 15 minutes we finally were able to talk for an hour. Both iPhones are using Optus. Weird!

I get drop outs now and then with Telstra, I read somewhere on here that people were experiencing drop outs with other carriers but Telstra were fine. It doesn't seem to be anything to do with signal as I am in the city and usually always have great reception. The message Call Failed shows on the phone and when I try to call back straight away I get it again. I have to wait a while before I can return to the call. I have updated my software to v2.0.1 but still get the error

Just wondered if any one else was having this problem.
Hubby sometimes have to turn off 3g to make a call. Thats not a problem but wondered if that happens to others. We are in a dodgy 3g area so it seems to drop when trying to pick up and down from 2g to 3g although saying that my hubby struggled the other day whilst in Perth.
Back using my Nokia whilst iPhone was being repaired / replaced and once I switched off 3g I had no drop outs. Never had this problem with Vodafone.

I'm convinced all these problems are both iphone and optus related. Iphone because of problems with 2100mhz, and problems switching between 3g and gsm intracall. I had this happen to me with calls starting on 3g and ending on gsm, and during the switch the other party couldnt' hear me for a full ten seconds (this is on 2.0.2). I have a feeling that it's partly due to iphone firmware issues and also partly due to Optus' less than stellar 3g network coverage.

"Less than stellar', ........ I like that!. I think they have been less than honest about the quality and coverage of their network and the new Generation of "smart phones" is going to force them to spend some money and get their act together.
