iPhone Number Formatting for 2.0 on 1st Gen

Hi all!

I have been trawling the net for an answer to the Number formatting issue. I am have a 1st generation iPhone upgraded to 2.0 with Pwanage 2.0.1. All is well.

However I cannot find anything regarding how to get Aussie phone numbers to display properly. ie 0418 XXX XXX OR 07 XXXX XXXX They just show up as 07XXXXXXXX OR WORSE +61 4 38 XXX XXXX.

I sthis the case on the official Aussie 3G iPhones too?

Minor issue i know but one i would love to see addressed like it was on 1.1.4 via the Whirlpool repository.

Mine works fine...

As a matter of fact number formatting has been fine even on 1.1.4 when you set it up properly
Settings > General > International > Region Format = Australia
All the Australia crap from the 3G iPhones is in the 1st Gen iPhone software for some reason (to make the management on apples part easier I suppose)

Thanks for the reply, however this doesn't fix the issue at all. At least on my phone.

I have come across a tutorial requiring one to SSH into the iPhone, but having to go that bother is just a little beyond my care factor...

here is the link if anyone is interested or can come up with a simpler solution

The Babysteps guide here was written for earlier firmware versions, but it can still be followed for the 1st gen phone running 2.0. It worked for me. However, it does require using SSH.

Yeah this is happening on my non-jailbroken 3G. I get either 04XXXXXXXX or +61 4 XX XXXX <- quite ugly.

I wonder if Apple'll fix it.

On that note, should I format my numbers to the +614 type, or is 04 good enough?

I have from day one of my first gen used the international format and never really had issue. But I can see using the 04xxxxxxx causing problem. Especially if you go overseas you will never connect a call due to no country code.

Worked for me also. I sftp'd UIPhoneFormats.plist to my Macbook, edited it there with "Property List Editor", sftp'd back to the phone, rebooted and all is well.

I'd be happy to give it a go if I could get Cydia to Install SSH without causing the iPhone to Crash to the point of needing a fresh Firmware install...

I have also tried to install OpenSSH from the outset in Pawnage 2.0.1 but no Joy. Says the remote computer terminated/refused the connection

Anyone else experience this?

I have experienced that. I've upgraded three phones. The first two I had trouble getting in to with SSH, but persevered. I found that if I accessed them with Terminal first, I was then able to get in reliably with Cyberduck. However, on the third phone I did, which was done with the exact same customised software of the same computer, I had the same problem you are reporting - "remote computer terminated". I never got in, and I have no explanation. Cydia was showing that OpenSSH was installed. If I'd had time, I'd have tried the full restore again, but I don't know whether that would have fixed it or not.

Yeah I have chewed up the past 2 evenings doing restore after restore in an effort to get SSH and Cydia to behave themselves.

At this stage I think I will just live with it and hope that once Installer v4.0 is out the wpool repository may be a solution again.

Aus number formatting can now be downloaded via Cydia for v2.o software.

Thanks laughingbird!
