Optus handset insurance for the iPhone - worth it???

I have a 16Gb Iphone with Optus as does my wife, we are considering the $8.13 insurance plan with Optus.

I am just worried if we drop the phone or it's stolen etc that we aren't covered and have have to worry about forking over for a new handset.

Can anyone tell me if it's worth having, any experience or issues you have had with Optus's mobile insurance.

Is it worth the extra $8.13 and do you think this is essential with a device like the iphone.

Just don't want to pay for it if they are a nightmare to deal with if making a claim.

Cheers

I added my iphone to my home contents insurance with SGIC. They said I will be covered for damage, theft or loss world-wide. I think it only cost me an extra $5 or $10 a year extra. I specifically listed it as an iPhone on my policy. There was no problem.

It's cheap, on a 24 month contract with optus you get 2 months free and it covers accidents that are your fault and theft. That is about $180 over 2 years which is quite cheap really.

I've taken the Optus insurance plan, definitely worth the peace of mind imo.

I also have it. I think you need some kind of insurance, go with it unless you get a better offer.

I'm with Carlow1 ... you'll save a lot of money if you just use your standard home contents insurance. The phone may already be covered, but it doesn't hurt to call your insurance company to check.

Stating the obvious, but I disagree with the rest of you ... $90 a year for a phone, when you can insure your whole house contents for what, $500 ... $90 a year is expensive.

I never buy insurance for a phone. Never had to, never broke them, never lost them. *knocks on wood*. BUT, I figure if something happens, the $180 I would have paid for the insurance, is almost the cost of a $199 replacement IF something happened.

With Optus insurance, you also have to pay extra to get it repaired or replaced. It's $50 and $100 respectively.
