Yep, you need to use the AppStore to get programs (where there are plenty, but not hte same ones as were on Installer). There is a thing called Cydia for jailbroken iPhones, which is the same deal as Installer, but it hasn't got anywhere near as many apps for it like Installer did.

Hi all this is my first post but i have been reading your forums for a while as a year ago i bought a 17 " Macbook Pro and love it,
I have just bought a 1st generation Iphone on Ebay Australia and got it one day ago to find out it would not sync with Itunes, I mucked around with it for a while and kept getting a error saying that i needed a driver for my MT6229, I researched this on Google to find out to my dismay that what i had was a Hiphone made in China.
So i write this as a warning to anybody looking to buy a old iphone "beware"

So, I'm wondering if any of you wonderful people know how to repair anything more than the software side of things. I fried my 1st Gen iPhone by plugging it into a Bose speaker dock and had no luck in getting power and restore errors past that. So instead I waited for the iPhone 3G which I'm now using and loving. It does seem a little sad to have my 1st Gen iPhone sitting in box all alone though.

I would of course, be willing to pay for all expenses involved, I'm just wondering if any of you could place an estimate on what type of costs I would be looking at? Based on the research I did when it broke down, I think the motherboard is fried. Also, now that Apple is selling iPhones in Australia, is there any chance of sending it to them for repair?

I've got a Gen 1 1.14 that was bought from a dealer around 3 months ago, it came unlocked with an AT&T sim card in it, I've been using it on the Telstra network with no probs. In his instructions with the phone he stated to not upgrade or restore, can you do anything with it for me? Do you need my sim to do it?

Talking Decryption is a Legend!

Decryption has fixed my iphone twice, first to load version 1.4, then to load ver 2.0. He has got my iphone working even after I have stuffed it up completly. I just pop it in the post and its returned to me a couple of days later working like brand new.
Truely a Mac Legend!!
Thanx Heaps!!

Its currently a jailbroken 1.1.4 running on vodafone, now if i come to you decryption and get you to put 2.0 on it, does that just mean she gets the App store? Because my mum keeps NAGGING me when can she upgrade it because she wants some of the apps i have on my 3G iphone....

Yep! She'll get the App Store and can use it in iTunes to buy apps just like your 3G iPhone.
