Stuff it.... I'm diving in! It looks fairly easy to go back to 1.14 should the need arise.

Can anything be done?
Yeah, I'm sure something can be done - I doubt the hardware is damaged, it's just not booting up properly.

Is it now just a pretty paper-weight? Or is there any chance of waking it from the dead?
had the same problem with one.

used pwnage 2 made a custom firmware

reflash it with a custom firmware in itunes

do you get a blank screen or the itunes logo + cable on the screen?

Despite decryption's generous offer I took a careful look through the various online how-tos over the weekend and decided to give it a try myself. Worked like a charm first time out- 1.1.1 to 2.0 - thanks to the really wonderful Pwnage. Those guys have obviously put a LOT of work into that little app...

Since then do I get the feeling that (apart from all its advantages) 2.0 runs a bit slower that 1.1.1? Looks like the battery life is waaaay down too, even with most of the auto stuff is turned off. Still, Remote makes the upgrade worth it alone....

I've done about 4 iPhones so far, all went well
Hopefully they decide to donate to the EFA...

The highlight of the new version is the AppStore.

No, they will be removed and you won't be able to install them again as those programs don't work on firmware 2.0.
