Can gen 1 iPhone be unlocked via Optus BYO?
Optus have a BYO plan where you can sign up your existing iPhone to a Yes plan, paying month to month.

Could this be used to unlock a gen 1 AT&T phone? In other words do Optus unlock your handset as part of this arrangement or does the BYO deal require an already unlocked phone?

No. You need to unlock it yourself using the Pwnage Tool. Then you are free to use any SIM/plan you wish.

Yeah but it has to be re-unlocked with each new firmware released. I was hoping this might be a loophole to get a permanent unlock.
