I for one, even if it was a dog, would hold out, Apple have a great track record, no point jumping a ship that ain't sinking.

me and my mum were on Three (we're in glenelg) and inside our house, the reception was fantastic.. since moving to optus, GSM is still tolerable, but 3G is almost non existant.. which is pretty poor.. I may be blaming the transformer outside out house too
But there was no problems with coverage when we were on Three.. makes no sense!

Aparently that Ericsson is the hardware supply of Hutchison, Vodafone, and Telstra. Optus uses different supplier.
So it could be a hardware related issue from Optus ..

If it is, I'd be happier. That supplier to Optus is Nokia. I'm sure they will sort any problems out if their hardware is to blame.

If it is an Apple issue, be assured, they will get onto to it, even without half of Australia calling.
The worry is if it's a network issue, not sure if the differing systems may have something to do with, or maybe simply a software issue.
Should hear soon...

i certainly agree with it being the best phone ever
i'm going to wait as long as i can to make a decision, to see what develops, i think i can return on optus within 14 days. that gives me till friday. i'll have to make a decision before then, and hope to get some better informaition to make any decision with!
do you know if you can return to telstra? and how long you have?
and i asked before, but how good was your information from inside 3 that the "iphone is faulty?"

would be WONDERFUL if there was a software/firmware or carrier side fix in the works. nothing would make me happier atm.

oh sorry I don't think I wrote that very clearly.... The iPhone is not faulty.. In fact I am pretty sure you will see it on the shelves of a 3 shop in the coming weeks. BUT if there are that many people indicating there are coverage issues (check out the apple.com forum) there clearly are issues. I just hope they are resolved asap.

- Average Signal 1bar=5, 2bar=12, 3bar=7, 4bar=2, 5bar=5
- Issues - 8 people report NO problems, 23 report poor service in ares they know to be better, 15 report a slow changeover between 2/3G, 14 report slow data transfer rate, 11 report frequent dropped calls, 10 report frequent "No Service."
- 15 rate the 3G coverage in their area > 5/10, 16 rate their coverage below.
- Regardless of "reception bars", 21 people rate the quality of their calls on 3G > 5/10, 10 people rate call quality below.

- MB500X and MB489X are the most common models.
going through the information now to see if there are any other patterns.

Overall 9/32 replies report NO ISSUES
(4/6 Telstra users report NO ISSUES, 4/24 Optus users report NO ISSUES, 1/2 Voda users report NO ISSUES)
Out of the 9 people reporting NO ISSUES, 5 are in Melbourne suburbs, 1 Sydney suburb, 1 QLD/Brisbane region, 1 Perth (one just labelled VIC.)
Ill go through the people having issues, and see if they live anywhere in particular.
EDIT - No real pattern as to where people with issues are having them. Seem to be a lot in Melbourne on Optus though.
From the samples so far, any perceived issue doesn't seem to be location based.

You need to sit tight an hold on for the ride. Technology changes so fast that there are bound to be issues, its also called "Human Error". You can't always expect to have a product that will last for ever and perform your every command. The rapid changes that push technology forward are causing these problems...
Don't go blaming Optus, the Apple then both. Wait until the situation is fixed or take your iPhone and give it to someone else who actually deserves it.

I don't even know what to say to this... Where to even start. None of it really hits the point.
I understand that tech isn't alsways perfect. I've never asked for something that "lasts for ever and performs your every command." I just want something that works as it is advertised, and as it should.
$800 may not be much for some people, but personally I feel that if I spend $800 on a phone, I do expect basic functions/features to work out of the box.
It's fairly easy to sit back and critisise me, if you either have an iPhone that works, or don't even own one and have nothing at stake.
I havn't fully blamed anyone directly yet, if I had to guess I would think it's an Apple problem, but I'm not rushing to a conclusion yet. I've stayed open minded, and hope to remain so.
If you have stayed up to date with the occurences around the world, and own an iPhone (that you have had/are having problems with,) then I'm sure this issue would be of SOME concern to you.
And the suggestion that I should "give it to someone who deserves it" is just inflammitory and unnecessary.
I've paid the money, like everyone else, and I'm allowed to be concerned that MY version of the product is not as functional as it probably should be.
I'll say it again, but if it's just teething problems, and it will take x months, and I KNOW this, then I'm happy to wait it out. If its something more serious than that, then yes, I would rather return the iPhone and wait till things settle. But to make that decision I NEED TO KNOW WHAT"S GOING ON.
