Is this possible? - I am led to believe that unlocking an iPhone3G with Telstra is a contract breaker -terminates the contract.?. Telstra outright bought iPhone3Gs don't get access to the free wifi I believe.

I have a farm in a remote area, where only Telstra has any mobile coverage, and does provide 3.5G-HSPA-NextG (so mobile broadband -is the onlybroadband net available there except $atellite), since recently -yea at last; but I spend most of the year living & working in Sydney where I wanna use lots of mobile data and cheaper call rates on 3 or perhaps virgin thanks to an unlocked iPhone3G, while also getting Telstra's free wifi where available. This seems to be my Jesus'-Holy-Grail-phone so is it impossible???? Does the Telstra 'rebate offer', where someone who has purchased an iPhone3G with another carrier in the last 30 days and have the receipt, can switch to Telstra as carrier and get some rebate on the purchase price, give a 'ray-of-hope-from-God'??? ie. that I could buy a phone from Optus on prepaid, pay the $80 unlock fee, wait till unlocked successfully, then take it to Telstra with receipt, all within 30 days, and get it on a Telstra iPhone3G plan, with perhaps a rebate for some of that Optus pre-paid purchase cost, and with Telstra free wifi, and in the city still continue to use the Optus pre-paid sim sometimes, and better still use a 3 sim alot for data & cheaper calls. Also keeping the Telstra service for when I'm away from the city at the farm.

Let's discuss any clever scheme like this to gouge a path to what we really need with the iPhone3G, through the price-gouging carriers like Telstra -yours & my Aussie 'Holy-Grail' for the 'Jesus-Phone'.
Easy way out is to just wait for the Pwnage tool to be finished for unlocking iPhone3G - nothing new about that idea.
