Yup it works for me. I paid for the unlock on the Vodafone website (mentioned above) and followed the instructions. The iPhone unlocked right away and I can start using it officially (on 3 network).

pdra05, did you buy the Vodafone iPhone 3G outright from Dick Smith?
And what do you mean by 'unlocked right away'? Was it instantaneous? How long was the delay?

I got it off eBay, which was then unlocked to the Vodafone network. All I did was type in the IMEI # on the website, pay $75 and then was given a detailed instruction (still on the website) to unlock the iPhone.
So I followed it, did all the updates and restoring and 30 minutes later, the phone was unlocked.
Hope that helps.

Since Monday. Theres no actual time given. It just tells you to restore the phone then it should be unlocked. I am going to try the update. I'm using my Three sim plan. It should work perfectly.
The instructions are exactly what I have been doing this whole time. I checked the receipt and the payment was successful so I don't know what is going on. Surely it should be done.
You simply just restore the phone to factory settings and activate it with any sim carrier and it should work?
I did hear Vodafone was having trouble with apple and unlocking them. No idea if thats correct.

Yup that was the exact message I saw when my iPhone was unlocked. I really have no idea why it doesn't work for you guys..
Also... pdra05 is a "her" by the way.

I got a message "iPhone is activated" after restoring.
I suppose that means my iphone still locked to Voda....
I have done exactly what the website told me to do
it basically said put in a voda sim and restore the iphone rite?

yeah but if the phone was unlocked you would be able to just activate it with any sim.
I dont really believe pdra05 got it in 30 mins. This stuff has to be sent to apple. They review your IMEI and then send the information to your phone via itunes when you restore. It would take a few business days at the least I would think. I haven't heard a case being done that fast. I am going to ring Vodafone tomorrow to see what they have to say.
Its still not unlocked even after 2.1

Yup that's right.. But I didn't put in a vodafone sim card - I placed the 3 sim in right away for activation and unlocking and it worked.
I suppose that means the sim card doesn't affect the whole process. From what I'm seeing here, my guess is that the problem lies within the vodafone IMEI and Apple iPhone's data base. :| Hope that makes sense.
