Sorry, i have been on this forum in a fair while, but am i right in saying that you can buy the phone outright from DSE, then Vodafone will unlock it for you if you pay? Whats the procedure?
Cause my brothers been waiting for optus and they are useless at the moment, im real angry with them, we want a prepaid one so we can unlock it, but they keep allocating their stock to the people on plans

You cannot buy them outright anymore from DSE. Vodafone put a stop to this.
If you were lucky to have purchased one, then yes Vodafone will unlock if you pay $75. You ring them up on 1555 from the Vodafone SIM.
You will not get a Vodafone outright one anymore. Not until Vodafone come out with their official outright/prepaid iPhones.
It's all contact/plans... yes that does suck.

I wouldn't say they won't. I.e I think they will. Eventually. I think their website has a FAQ on this. They have plans to in the coming weeks. Or something.

Yeah that makes sense Huy, Telstra may possibly do it too, I guess they wanna first sign people up on contracts, then want to grab the attention of the pre-paid market....

Has anyone managed to get through to Vodafone operators? I managed to score a brand new Vodafone locked black 8GB 3G iPhone today and want to unlock it so I can use it on all networks. Everytime I ring them I go through a series of automated prompts and then I get disconnected.
Also does anyone know how I will get charged the $75 unlocking fee( I will have no bill for the fee to be charged to). I do not have a Vodafone account, and bought this one off a forum as it was an unwanted present.

You should just request for 'operator' and ignore LARA.
Not sure how they'll charge the unlock either. Normally it is via credit card or added to your bill - which is tricky for me too, since I'm a prepaid customer. I doubt they'll take it out of your call credits.
Wait for the online unlock. It will offer payment methods online and also be quicker.
Not yet available for iPhone though.

I had no problem unlocking my Voda iPhone on-line - just followed the link on my 'myVodaphone' home page - 48hrs later it was unlocked - can now use my Three or Telstra SIMS with it no problem...

The site I linked to above still says:

iPhone 3G Unlocking
iPhone unlocking online is coming soon. Until this service is available online you can unlock your phone by calling Customer Care on 1300 650 410 or 1555.
This request incurs a $75 unlocking fee. (Please note the unlocking fee is in addition to any early exit fees and outstanding handset payments/repayments. Click here for full Terms and Conditions
Please note: Vodafone can only unlock phones purchased from a Vodafone outlet in Australia.

Same. The problem with me is I dont have a current account with Vodafone so I can't get the unlock charge added to my next bill, nor can I go into a MyVodafone page.
I might ask for an operator tomorrow and get then to charge it to a credit card. Don't want to wait too long for the online bit to be added. I want to unlock it for my brother so he can use it with Optus.

I'm very sorry - I gave incorrect information - I had to call Vodafone and go through the unlocking request over the phone.
It was relatively painless - took about 15mins all up...

I just rang Vodafone. Got through after a few unsuccessful attempts.
The operator I spoke to said I was unable to get the phone unlocked as I did not have the telephone number that the phone was originally bought with. I told her I had bought it off someone that received it as a gift and that I do not have a Vodafone account or number. Is there any way around this at all? I bought it brand new off another forum, off someone that received it as a gift but already had a decent phone. I want to unlock it so I can use it on another carriers network.

Was this a contract phone?
Because I bought my Vodafone one outright which did NOT come with a SIM or number attached to the iPhone.

I'm not sure if it was a contract phone. I assume it was prepaid if it was a gift.
I got onto a guy called Daniel at Vodafone just then. He suggested I buy a $2 Vodafone starter pack and recharge with at least $75 worth of credit, and to ring back afterwards. He assured me once this procedure has been carried out they can apply the unlocking codes to the phone and get it unlocked within 3 days.
